If I remember my anatomy and hematology class right you could use the stem cells from the babies cord after the baby is born for the same thing right?
anatomy was a long time ago and hematology was a massive complicated beast so I may be wrong.
After a baby is born, cord blood is left in the umbilical cord and placenta. It is relatively easy to collect, with no risk to the mother or baby. It contains haematopoietic (blood) stem cells: rare cells normally found in the bone marrow. They can be considered adult, or more specialized, stem cells and cannot currently become other cells in the body. The common use for these stem cells are leukemia and blood disorders.
