While I have my own reservations, it is my ethical belief that preventing avoidable suffering and premature death is an obligation, and one that may only be able to be achieved through researching stem cells. The mastery of stem cells has the ability to change humanity forever, and that is why I propose that federal funding of embryonic stem cell research should be reinstated.
Your initial resolution is misleading then. You aren't arguing, "Stem cell research is important and we should support it." You're arguing, "Stem cell research is important, so we should confiscate other people's wealth in order to fund its research."

 • My initial and only resolution is to repeal the section of the 2009 Omnibus Appropriations Act that limits federal funding to embryonic stem cell research. As I stated, this is a policy proposal research paper, not my opinion on a subject paper. Though they can go hand-in-hand, federal funding is the policy proposal. The US government spends 95 billion a year on medical research. Allocation of a fraction of those resources could save countless lives and reduce suffering. I fail to see your point.

Your point is that we ought to lift the limit on wealth that can be confiscated and spent on this research.
The US government spends 95 billion a year on medical research.
I fail to see your point.
Seems awfully cut-and-dry. You can either convince me to voluntarily support (or invest in) stem cell research, or you can convince others to tolerate further confiscation of my wealth in order to fund it on my behalf, whether I want it or not.

Additionally, this is just part 1 of 7 of the final paper, sort of a definition of my proposal and identifying the problem.
I won't dispute that, but look at the reality of the situation.
Which is?
Seems awfully cut-and-dry. You can either convince me to voluntarily support (or invest in) stem cell research, or you can convince others to tolerate further confiscation of my wealth in order to fund it on my behalf, whether I want it or not.
How so? You already can invest in private sector stem cell research. As for the latter point, we have very little control on what our taxes are spent on anyway. I get the feeling by your language that you are against taxation, which I am not here to argue with you about. The point is that federal funding of this area of research is well worth the cost, as specified in my OP.

Why would I give a sales pitch to a group of people if the actual deal doesn't involve a voluntary transaction? I can show somebody how good a product or service is, but why even bother if I can just convince others to give the state the authority to force them to buy it?
Which is?
Coercion.
How so? You already can invest in private sector stem cell research. • As I said, I'm not here to debate taxes with you. This proposal is for the system of government we currently live under, which has taxes and spends billions of it on medical research which could be better served performing embryonic stem cell research. Good day.

If it's already privatized then there's no need for government funding, government's never cured a desease only the private sector has

 • Pretty much. He has been on multiple posts and tries to somehow tie government/theft in everything. Even if it is more random crap. Not sure if his group chat died or something and has nobody to vent to.
