Too gimmicky. Why not just a home console with a new, more powerful DS as the controller and also have a regular controller (seen in video)? The idea is creative but super unrational.

  • Isn't that what it is

  • Nope. It is a huge ass tablet thing with gimmicky handles. If I wanted to play Skyrim portably, I would go buy Nvidia's thing.

  • It appears to me that it is a tablet, console and handled. It looks like it will also have a controller that is similar to a 360. I am looking forward to being able to play Zelda on the go. I haven't been this excited for a Nintendo product since the game cube. Hopefully they get a lot of 3rd party support and allow gamers access to their back catalog of games and I will be extremely happy

I'm literally copy pasting this around: Notice how the first comment from a 3rd party dev was Bethesda saying that Skyrim on Switch isn't confirmed? That's a clue of it being a longshot. Nintendo has always treated 3rd party devs like trash and games on their console haven't sold well for a long time. They have very little incentive to go through the painfully convoluted task of developing for a Nintendo OS. As I said, every 3rd party dev has every reason to keep developing for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.

  • Or that they are under NDA till Nintendo does an official reveal of the console. Similar how Bungie didn't announce Destiny on Xbox one till MS did an official announcement on the one. Also they could not being saying it's going to be on the Switch because they don't want to impact sales for next week. And who said that 3rd party wouldn't be allowed to still develop for PS and MS. From a business standpoint it benefits to develop for all of them. But time could tell

  • Even if they confirmed it, they are still going to make way more money on Xbox, PlayStation, or PC than they will ever make on the Switch.

  • Sure, but if it is confirmed. It will show that Nintendo is truly interested in having 3rd party support. And that will help with sale since Nintendo has been lacking in that department

  • And the reason they have been lacking is because they treat 3rd party devs like shit, developing for their consoles is stupidly convoluted, and games on Nintendo's consoles haven't made real money in a long time. Only one of those things has changed. Nintendo realized that 3rd party is where the money is so they are all of the sudden respectful to 3rd party devs but neither of the other two have changed. That is why they will not get the 3rd party support they want.

  • Isn't that kind of what it is, though? It's basically a better DS that can be used as a console.

Sure, maybe. But those handles are just too gimmicky. They are the killer. I see their goal, but the amount of issues that could occur is so high that I can't get behind it.
And goodluck fitting that -blam!-ing thing in your pocket.
• I don't think it has to fit in your pocket. I prefer a bigger screen, tbh. We'll have to see about the practicality of the controllers.

  • The whole thing is just unrational. Too much can go wrong with those gimmicky-handles. And it running Skyrim? Ha. As if. That thing is probably going to be around $400 (for home controller, console, and dock). Later that year, the Scorpio is coming out; it will run on the level of the GTX 10 series' and it will be $450-550. Notice how the first comment from a 3rd party dev was Bethesda saying that Skyrim on Switch isn't confirmed? That's a clue of it being a longshot. Nintendo has always treated 3rd party devs like trash and games on their console haven't sold well for a long time. They have very little incentive to go through the painfully convoluted task of developing for a Nintendo OS. It's going to flop so -blam!-ing hard.

  • I said this in another post but I couldn't care less about Skyrim on the Switch. If I want to get that on console again, I'll do it on something else. The new Zelda looks pretty damn cool, though.

  • That is the only thing that is keeping me ever so slightly interested. Chances are, I will just buy a cheap Wii U, play it, and get rid of the Wii U. The rest of that post, you haven't answered.

What's there to answer? I find the switch interesting, nothing more and nothing less. Who knows if it'll flop or not but I'm leaning towards it not flopping. Not completely, anyway.

  • We can't know until more information is released, but the facts are there. Chances say that it will not get the type of support it is looking for.
