Nintendo really needs to give more free reign to these developers as well. I get they want to be a family console but it turns some gamers away. I have no problem with it being wholesome but I couldn't justify spending $300 on a wii u due to lack of games I'd want to play, and unless proven otherwise I can't justify spending, I assume $400, on the switch. Cool premise but not much to offer currently over the niche it's created.

It's not a matter of giving developers free reign. At the end of the day Nintendo home console owners just don't buy third party games for Nintendo consoles even when the option is presented to them. There are two types of Nintendo console owners: 1) The super casual person that plays Nintendo games and will buy stuff like Just Dance 2) The person that owns an Xbox or Playstation and buys a Nintendo console as a supplement to their main console because they want Nintendo exclusives. The person that is into Destiny, COD, Final Fantasy, GTA, etc is not thinking "I am going to buy a Nintendo home console to play all my games." Most of them are buying, or already have bought, a PS4 and the rest are getting an Xbox One.

Every console needs a balanced mix between E-M games. The market is over-saturated with games intended for older audiences.

  • While i agree that you need a range and variety of games you can't solely cut one whole market out and expect to thrive. Thank god they recently have loosened up. It still not enough for my taste though.

  • But they're making progression.

  • If you pay attention to the trailer, it's kind of obvious that they kind of want to stray away from kid games. One thing I picked out is that there we 0 little kids in the trailer. Also, Skyrim? They're clearly trying to stop a crystal clear, family friendly exclusive image they've built.

I do wish Microsoft would have snagged the rights for it as I enjoyed the first one. But one example doesn't make it the norm. Many developers simply haven't made for them due to limitations or restrictions. That hurts the console in the long run. Less are likely to buy and the ones who do will be parents for their kids. Nothing wrong with that but reinforcing this cycle of almost all kid friendly games, due to kids being majority owner, doesn't help. It keeps a lot of potential gamers out of their sales. I want a reason to justify me spending so much money on this new system but until I'm proven wrong by what I see, the Scorpio or hell even a ps4 sounds like a better option. I'd get more uses out of one of those in the long run. You also have to think this console has most likely been in production 2+ yrs. the limitation it might have on processing powers may be even more shadowed now that the Scorpio and Neo will be coming out. On top of that it might be just a giant buffed up version of 3ds. Nothing wrong with that but I already have a 3ds XXL so I'd hate to drop another $400 for a slightly larger more powerful 3ds.
