Killing another Guardian's Ghost is more of an actual rule for Guardians than an 'unspoken' one. Other rules would be things like no summoning sparrows on maps with the exception of the three or four large maps and using ammo synthesizers.
Ghosts have thier own rules to abide by in the Crucible as well, especially in the more intimate game modes.
Don't worry about trying to explain mundane game mechanics through lore, otherwise you'll find yourself trying to explain why Guardians need a visual notification for when they can use a super instead of..you know just feeling that it's ready.

Or why that robot bastard makes you buy ammo and guns from him when he should be giving them to you. After all, you are about to go kill a hive god in a different dimension just so his sorry ass can keep giving you those guns with random tasks. He might as well hand you a rock and tell you to go kill thirty different cabal while they are taking a shit.

It's because if they just gave you everything, the city would run out of glimmer and wouldn't be able to produce ammo or weapons

this is racist to Exos and I'm triggered.

I think there's a Vangaurd bounty for that, actually.
