It's Year 3. We now have a strong idea of what Bungie envisions as a raid, therefore we have a decent idea of what Destiny's rad activities will be for the foreseeable future. The question is simple. Is Destiny's newest raid, Wrath of the Machine, too easy? Think about this. Vault of Glass (Normal) World's First time: 14 hours Vault of Glass (Heroic) World's First time: 15 hours Crota's End (Normal) World's First time: 7 hours Crota's End (Heroic) World's First time: 20 minutes King's Fall (Normal) World's First time: 7 hours King's Fall (Heroic) World's First time: 90 minutes Wrath of the Machine: (Normal) World's First time: 4 hours Wrath of the Machine (Heroic) World's First time: 2 hours See a pattern here? WotM's final time by the first team, although slightly slower on Heroic, was 3 hours quicker on Normal. This is partially due to the heavy focus on light level over mechanics, which in my opinion, makes the raid far too easy to be even remotely a challenge. Reflecting on my own experience, it only took me 2.5 hours on Heroic to beat WotM, while it took several tries due to unskilled teams on Normal. I personally believe PvE in Destiny, is in dire need of an increase in difficulty; not in an artificial way, like level increases or more instant deaths, but more intricate puzzles and mechanic heavy bosses that require intense communication and skill to complete. Please debate!

Despite people wanting more difficulty, I have to admit that this game is pretty casual compared to certain popular RPG's on the market. I'm trying to find an experience I know I'll never find here, and I'm looking around and enjoying my options

    • Its right on the cusp of that amazing vault of glass balanced difficulty. If you know what you are doing its a fun encounter if you are unfamiliar but quick to learn its a nice challenge if you are incompetent and unable to cooperate yeah your going to be stuck for a while.

Who says raids need to be difficult? Its endgame content that requires a little extra teamwork. Plus we have a lot more options with loadouts so we have a better edge now. And a better understanding of the games.

    • I feel as if it seems like their easier, because players are getting better at the game. A lot of us have been playing for over two years. VOG took awhile because it was the first Destiny raid ever..and people were still getting used to Destiny. It was a learning curve, having come from shooters like CoD or Battlefield. It's not new anymore:)

    • People forget how hard Vault of Glass actually is and how complicated it was, especially since nothing was ever explained outside of the Grimore. Went back with a full team to get No Time To Explain and Vex Mythoclast and it was a massacre even though we knew what we were doing. Opening it was surprisingly difficult just due to the sheer ability of praetorians, Templar took a while with us barely beating it, Gorgons weren't too bad but we kept getting lost and just ended up killing all of them, after that was the massacre of the jumps...those poor warlocks..., Gatekeeper was easy, and Atheon was easy but we did screw it up once.

      • My experience last night suggests otherwise. VoG: Nobody knew what they were doing. Crota hard: Artificial difficulty + unforgiving level system. KF: Nigh-unsalvageable encounters. WotM: Most people were overleveled. Most encounters can take a death or two. The new mechanics aren't the brutal failing point.

      • Getting 6 people to sit and game together for more than 2 hours is the real challenge. The raid I think is the right difficulty, though I have buds who think it's easy. Yeah I guess it is, but you need 5 people to agree with you before you start beating it quickly. Your data is mostly accurate but doesn't take into account the fact we have learned how to raid, how to prepare for a raid, what bungie tends to do, how mechanics work in destiny, and that most mechanics are similar to something that was already old hat.

      • Just right for the average guy. Any harder and I will not be able to get it done through lfg anymore. People already cannot stay alive.

      • People struggled telling people which portal they teleported too in VoG. Making it anymore difficult would result in instant complaints for the simple minded players. Which coincidentally outnumber players with basic comprehension and adapting skills.

      • You have your times mixed up for WotM for world's normal: It's 2.5hrs was done by Redeem. Just saying.

To me, WotM is just right. Fun, laid back, no sweats unless you're an elitist dbag who says MUST HAVE COMPLETED IT IN ORDER TO JOIN US FOR NORMAL and bullshit. GTFO.
[b]-QA Test Engineer (a.k.a. • It's not light over mechanics, it's more people that know what they're doing the second time around

        • As someone who has not yet beat Heroic I say yes. It seems very easy and a huge letdown. I guess we'll have to wait till challenge mode :/

Crota's End (Normal) World's First time: 7 hours Crota's End (Heroic) World's First time: 20 minutes

idk why but that had me dead af 😂
• I personally think WoTM is just right with regards to mechanics and difficulty, the raid still requires teamwork, coordination and communication, but doesn't result in an automatic wipe if one person messes up. It's also nice that you don't need a full team of 6 to go from start to finish legitimately (I'm looking at you King's Fall totems!) Also, I think the raids are being solved quicker over time because a lot of them have mechanics which are similar to one another. When VoG first landed people had no idea on what to do, whereas the start of WoTM is basically like opening the vault. When a new raid drops people can just apply the logic from previous raids to see if it works, rather than running around frantically wondering why nothing is working

The last DPS part is lame, the rest was a lot of fun. I'll probably never finish it and that's frustrating but it is what it is. /seriously the "you have 2 seconds to jump on this guy" part is just -blam!-ing stupid

I would say it's just right. Not that I know how difficult any of the other raids besides VoG are. And I haven't even completed that.

              • VoG is an outlier because it was the first raid in Destiny. People didn't have as good a handle on general game mechanics as they do now. I have yet to play Wrath because I only recently reached a point where I feel strong enough to go in, so I can't comment on its difficulty. But I hope it is reminiscent of Kings Fall. I enjoyed Kings Fall more than Crotas End. If Wrath is similar to Vault, that would also be good.

              • You can't go by time. We are so much better at raiding now than then regardless of mechanics. I haven't played it but from what I've seen it brought back the best of VOG. Some complex mechanics, but not the rigidity of kings fall.

              • The massive dip after VoG makes sense. It took a while for people to figure out the right coordination, and strategies that carried over to other parts of the game. Prior to VoG, strikes were essentially "nuke this room for 2 minutes, move to next room, repeat" And people figured out how to cheese parts of Crota hence the ridiculous quick speed runs. At this point, the players have figured out most of the "mechanics" Bungie uses and the best counter-tactics. Combine that with meta Ability and meta Weapon combinations and things get melted quite quickly.

              • It is fairly easy... with practice. My fastest raid times have been in #recruitment. Strange that total randoms know what to do, and these so called elite players with emblem reqs, 395+ light and junk just SUCK. NO REASON WOTM CANNOT HAVE MATCHMAKING. NONE.
