Praedyth's Revenge: Year 3 Vault of Glass Update

Many have asked for it. A lot are convinced that Bungie is really going to do it. They promised there would be more content for Year 3 post-SRL, and what better way to do that than bring back Destiny's first Raid, along with one of the best Exotic guns that has ever existed in this game? Here's how I imagine it could be done: 1. New Social Space: The Lighthouse Okay, so the Lighthouse isn't technically "new"... but right now, it's just a big empty space you go to to claim your Flawless loot in Trials of Osiris. Considering it's connection to the Vex, the return of Vault of Glass is a perfect opportunity to flesh it out. The new Lighthouse would be populated with new vendors, including two new quest-givers... and while anyone would be able to visit the lighthouse now, the Flawless loot chest would of course remain restricted to those who actually have Flawless Trials Passages. 2. New Lighthouse Vendors & Characters Remember Praedyth? The lost Guardian who guided you through the "Paradox" mission in The Taken King? He would return- in a sense- as your guide through a new Story, and the primary quest-giver for the reprised Vault of Glass. There would be other vendors to interact with in the lighthouse as well: -Spectre of Praedyth (Main Quest-Giver/Vault of Glass) -Brother Jory (Main Quest-Giver/Crota's End) -Oskar Hakke (Hakke Foundry Rep/Vendor) -Damien Suros (SUROS Foundry Rep/Vendor) -Viktor Omolon (Omolon Foundry Rep/Vendor) The Spectre of Praedyth is a ghostly image of the Guardian Praedyth. He offers weekly bounties (much like Shiro-4) that give 500 Vanguard Rep apiece as well as Legendary engrams, and offers a new Weekly Patrol Quest specific to Venus each week. He also sells items specific to the Vault of Glass, including Vault Key Fragments- these are similar to SIVA Key Fragments and can be used to make Vault Keys that will award you extra loot in the Vault of Glass itself, or allow you to re-roll the perks on Vault of Glass armor. Brother Jory is a member of the Cult of Osiris who has been hunting the last of Oryx's brood; Nokris, the Exiled Prince. He has tracked Nokris to the Oversoul Throne on the Moon, and serves as your guide to a reimagined version of Crota's End in which you must slay Nokris instead of Crota. He also offers Moldering Shards, which have been updated so that they can be used to re-roll the perks on armor from the Kings Fall and Nokris' Demise Raids, or used to forge Moldering Keys to unlock bonus loot in King's Fall and Nokris' Demise. Oskar Hakke is one of the founders of the Hakke Foundry in the city, and offers ready-made Hakke weapons for you to buy. Unlike Armsday weapons, his stock does not change each week, but he and the other Foundry vendors have stock comparable to the Vanguard. Hakke's arsenal has also been expanded to include Hakke Sidearms, Machine Guns, and Rocket Launchers. Damien Suros represents SUROS Foundry, which offers ready-made SUROS weapons. Like Hakke, his arsenal has been expanded; SUROS now offers Fusion Rifles, Sniper Rifles and Shotguns. Viktor Omolon is the head of Omolon Foundry, and offers ready-made Omolon weaponry. His arsenal now includes Omolon Machine Guns, Pulse Rifles, and Sidearms. All new Foundry weapons can also be acquired from the Gunsmith in the Tower, but the new Foundry vendors in the Lighthouse will allow you to simply purchase these weapons immediately with Legendary Marks rather than waiting a week for your Armsday orders to come in, or for Banshee-44 to sell the specific weapons you want. 3. Year 3 Vault of Glass. In Year 3, the Vault of Glass's loot table features new weapons and armor all with unique models (much like King's Fall), as well as some old favorites, and all chests now have a chance to drop Exotics as well as Vault Key Fragments and Legendary Engrams. The Templar, Gorgons, and Atheon also have loot chests that can be unlocked with Vault Keys, as well as boss-specific challenges. Year 3 Vault of Glass starts at 400 Light on Normal and 425 on Hard Mode. Challenges are as follows: Templar- Destroy the Templar without him teleporting once. Gorgons- Destroy at least 2 Gorgons in the Gorgon's Labyrinth. Atheon- Defeat Atheon without a member of your Fireteam holding the Relic more than twice. There is also an Exotic Quest to getting the Year 3 Vex Mythoclast. In order to get it, you must find 3 ket items in the Vault of Glass; the Templar's Mind Core, a Gorgon's Eye (requires killing a Gorgon), and the Heart of Atheon. Get all 3, and Praedyth will send on a quest across Venus and Mars to gather Vex technology needed to build the Vex Mythoclast, with a Quest Mission at the end that will award you the final piece. 4. Year 3 Crota's End: Nokris' Demise. After you've conquered the Year 3 Vault of Glass on at least Normal, Praedyth will direct you another matter; the arrival of Nokris, the Banished Prince. The last son of Oryx, and brother to Crota. He has gone to the Oversoul Throne on the Moon where Crota was killed, and seeks to claim the mantle of the Taken King for himself. He urges you to speak to Brother Jory and put an end to Oryx's dynasty once and for all. Nokris' Demise differs from Crota's End in several ways; though it follows the same path, the Raid now features the Taken, and the final boss is Nokris instead of Crota. The Bridge encounter would be fixed so that it can no longer be cheesed, and Nokris must be defeated in 2 phases much like Aksis in Wrath of the Machine. In the first phase, you must halt a ritual that will allow Nokris to absorb the soul of Oryx; the catch is that if you fail, you do not wipe. Instead, failing to disrupt the ritual will push you right into the second phase, and Nokris will be stronger than if you had succeeded in disrupting the ritual. Completing Nokris' Demise awards a Year 3 version of Necrochasm; the Year 3 version has a new Taken skin and deals Void damage instead of Arc, and the Cursebringer perk has been upgraded to have a chaining effect; enemies caught in the blast radius of Cursebringer's explosion may be cursed as well, causing them to explode. This can chain up to 4 additional enemies; and yes, it would work on Guardians in the Crucible. 5. New Strikes and Reprised Strikes. The Praedyth's Revenge update would include 1 brand-new Strike set in the Vault of Glass called the Perfected Mind, where you must stop the Devil Splicers from getting inside the Vault of Glass and reanimating the Templar with SIVA. There would also be re-imagined versions of The Nexus and Will of Crota. Both strikes now features Splicers and Taken enemies, as well as Taken versions of Sekrion and Omnigul. The reprised Nexus strike is pretty straightforward; the Taken have seized control of Sekrion, Nexus Mind and are trying to use him to turn Venus into a machine planet- and through it, take control of all that the Vex have created. The boss fight works much like Morphon, Blighted Mind; as the battle progresses, Blighted Oracles will appear and generate an impenetrable shield around Sekrion that can only be brought down by destroying the Oracles. In the Will of Nokris strike, Omnigul has also been Takenified; she also appears periodically throughout the Strike, and like Taniks, and damage you deal to her carries all the way to the end. She now appears in the first room where you fight the Fallen and Hive, giving you 3 opportunities to deal damage to her, and making the final encounter less tedious. There are also fewer enemies in the 2nd encounter in the Skywatch where you fight the Fallen; all of the Fallen in the Strike have also been replaced by the Devil Splicers. The new Strike is called The Perfected Mind. It starts you out in The Cinders on Venus; your first objective is to track down a Splicer patrol and eliminate it's leader to gain access to the Vault of Glass. This involves an epic Pike chase all around Venus; your target is the leader of a trio of Pikes called Dreksis, Pikemaster. For this chase segment, you have 3 upgraded Pikes with improve durability and unlimited boost. Chase down Dreksis and destroy his Heavy Pike to get the Splicer Codes, but watch out for other enemy Pikes coming up behind you, as well as the Shock Mines Drekis deploys behind him. Once Dreksis is dead and you have the codes, go to the Waking Ruins and the Vault door will open automatically. Kill the Splicers guarding the entrance, then proceed inside to Templar's Well. When you get there, the boss will appear; a SIVA-infused Hydra called Varkrion, Perfected Mind. He deals Solar damage and has a secondary attack similar to Aksis where he can fire off SIVA Swarms. Finally, the Splicers have tapped into the Oracles just as the House of Wolves did, and will activate them periodically throughout the battle; destroy them as they appear, or your team will wipe. Strike-specific rewards include the Perfected Timepiece- this is the same gun as Atheon's Epilogue, but it's now blue instead of bronze, and like Treads Upon Stars and Imago Loop, it can roll with random perks. There is also a gun based on the Fang of Ir Yut called Omnigul's Cry, which can only be obtained from the Will of Nokris strike and has the same aesthetics as Darkblade's Spite and Grasp of Malok. 6. Elemental Cores Finally, the Praedyth's Revenge update would add a much-requested feature from the community... the ability to infuse weapons with different elemental damage, including primaries. Elemental Cores can be purchased for 20 Legendary Marks from each of the new Foundry Vendors in the Lighthouse, and can be used to change a weapon's elemental damage type.

I think the lamp checkpoint in Nokris's Demise should also be different from the Crota's End lamps. Instead of there being thralls, there is a Taken version of the Alak Hul. His name is Korthrax, Blade of Hunger. As soon as you leave the circle of light (the spot where you fall and land onto), Korthrax appears and he will run to the nearest lamp. If you do enough damage, he will vanish temporarily, and give up on that lamp. If he makes it to a lamp, he will begin to absorb its power and unleash a fire breath attack with as much range and duration as Sylok, the Defiled. You will also be unable to use lamps that he absorbed. If your team does proper DPS, you won't have to worry about this. Once you get him to vanish, you may then stand by the lamp to decrease your Weight of Darkness. As soon as someone leaves the lamp, Korthrax will appear again and try to absorb the next lamp. If you get weight of Darkness x10 before stepping on the sync plate, a notification will say "Korthrax smells [gamertag]'s exhaustion." He will then teleport to you and kill you instantly. Once a member of your fireteam steps on the sync plate, Korthrax will disappear longer than usual. Adds will start spawning, and you will have to survive just like in Crota's End. Instead of ogres, thralls, and knights, there are taken wizards, sword captains, and acolytes. On hard mode, there are also taken phalanxes. During this phase, you do not have to worry about Korthrax killing players with Weight of Darkness x10. He's gone for now. Once you've survived for a certain amount of time, your weight of darkness will disappear, and you will get a notification that says "The path forward is obstructed." Korthrax appears once again, at full health and angrier than ever. This is very similar to the second phase of the Alak Hul fight. However, the adds still spawn at a constant rate, and Taken mines will spawn every time he teleports. Korthrax Challenge mode: Do not let Korthrax absorb any of the lamps. No guardians in the fireteam are to be left behind during the running phase.
This means nobody should immediately rush to the next lamp. You need to wait until everyone is ready before proceeding to the next lamp.
During the adds phase, all surviving players must be standing on the sync plate, not on top of a rock. Rewards After you kill the boss, the adds will despawn, the bridge will form, and the exotic chest will be at the beginning of the tunnel. However, you don't want to leave the area just yet. A secret must be uncovered in order to get a Year 3 Husk of the Pit and the quest for a Year 3 Necrochasm. Year 3 Husk of the Pit
Pay close attention, or this may be extremely confusing! There are 16 lamps in total. After you kill Korthrax, your team needs to stand next to 6 lamps at the same time. Not just any 6 lamps, you need to find the right ones. Phase 1 Once you find the correct lamps, everyone in the fireteam needs to step close to their lamp at the same time. This will cause those lamps to get surrounded by green energy. Phase 2 After you've activated the 6 lamps, your team needs to find the next 6 lamps to activate. After you activate the next 6 lamps, there will only be 4 left. Phase 3 4 players need to stand at the remaining 4 lamps. Unlike the first 12 lamps, these last 4 will not activate immediately. Whatever you do, DO NOT LEAVE THOSE LAMPS!!! As long as 4 players are standing next to their lamps, the remaining 2 players will receive a buff. One player will get Swordbearer's Strength x0, and the other will get Gatekeeper's Power x0. The person with Swordbearer's Strength needs to absorb the 6 lamps that were activated in phase 1. The person with Gatekeeper's Power needs to absorb the lamps that were activated in phase 2. After the 2 guardians have their buff x6, Swordbearer's Strength needs to go to the circle of light at the beginning, while the Gatekeeper's Power needs to go to the sync plate at the end. The two players must step on their sync plate/ circle of light at the same time. This will trigger a loud noise, and all of the chest doors will be unlocked. At this point, all guardians can leave their posts, and find the correct door with the chest. One door has the chest, and the rest have a Gatekeeper inside. Once you open the chest, you will receive an emblem and a year 3 Husk of the Pit.
Year 3 Eidolon Ally
Step 1 Kill a bunch of taken with Husk of the Pit. Step 2 Do the puzzle in King's Fall that unlocks Oryx's secret basketball court. Once you're in, you will need to get overcharged with the Husk of the Pit equipped. This will transform it into the Year 3 Eidolon ally.
Year 3 Necrochasm Complete Nokris's Demise on heroic difficulty with the Eidolon Ally equipped. This will earn you the Crux of Nokris, and you will then have the Year 3 Necrochasm.

  • I like everything but the oracles in the strike. That's a bit too overworked for a strike.

While I'm all for the return of old Raids and new characters, and so on...I'm here to point out some goods and bads of this. (Don't worry, it's mostly goods.) 1. It sounds like you basically want "Vault of the Machine". Sort of like you want a mix of the two...for example, the use of the Keys. That's very nice for WotM, but for a new age VoG...come on, Bungo can come up with something new. It's the same thing with the Chests. WotM's Chests are all essentially Exotic Chests, which is good, because if you remember VoG, there are like 3 Chests total vs WotM's 8+. The Challenge modes however, I don't like. It's like you wanna play KF again. I liked VoG the way it was, and I'm not sure I want a Challenge mode getting in the way. 2. Vex Mythoclast Quest. very good. me likey. Though I do hope the drops aren't from killing the bosses (aside from Gorgons maybe) but I think the drops should be found in the Boss's room somewhere. idk just my opinion no hurt pls 3. Lighthouse Social Space + New Characters. Ah...Keep the Lighthouse its own special place. Although I'm down for a new Social Space, if it had anything to do w/ VoG, it should be on Venus, right? As for a Ghost of Praedyth? Hell yeah. As for the Foundry characters...nah. The Foundry owners ain't gonna just show up, you know? They got businesses to run. Representatives of the Foundries, though, would be kinda cool. Now, for CE, I'm on the fence about whether to keep Eris relevant or to add someone new. "Brother Jory", a member of the Cult of Osiris; I'm not sure that the Cult is interested in the matters of the Hive, so perhaps he could be a disciple of Eris? Maybe we could add a Variks-type character, a Hive that turned his back on his people (though that'd be kinda weird). 4. Crota's End (Nokris' Demise) This is pretty good, actually. Hats off to you. If CE was remastered with new activities and a new Boss, this could actually be feasible. Maybe instead of going directly from Hellmouth, Bridge, and Crota, there could be a sequence where you get teleported and you fight someone new. As for the part where you can fail Phase 1 and go into Phase 2...nah. What if the group wipes? Will they start at Phase 1 or 2? It's just a bit complicated. The idea is great, though, don't get me wrong. I think that Bungo should borrow from Dark Souls and have you kill Nokris once, have him fake death, and then spring back to life...this sounds exactly like the Askis fight goddamnit. The point is, it should be worked on, but it's a very good start. 5. The Strikes. Dude tbh I could give less of a shit about Strikes as long as they drop good loot. 6. Those Cores. I am in full compliance with Primaries having Elemental Damage again. But...didn't VoG and CE BOTH have elemental primaries? If you want to bring the old Raids back, I'm gonna assume you want the old loot back too. Maybe instead of adding the cores, Bungo should realize their mistake and just add the elements back. But if they're too busy to do so, then I like the idea of the cores; though I think that you should only be able to apply them to certain weapons and only be able to do it once. Bam. You're stuck w/ an Arc Hopscotch. Especially if they'll be sold for only 20 Marks. 7. End. In conclusion, I like most of what you have to say, man. So does the community, apparently! 700+ upvotes. Although I can't speak for everyone, I hope that I can represent some people who don't have the spare time to spend 30 minutes writing an essay about a theoretical online forum post about an online game that's gonna become irrelevant next year. I think that mostly what you have to say is good, though some things can be worked on. Hopefully bungo will listen to its community more and apply this to the game. Thanks for reading, anyone who actually took the time to do so. P.S.: I really f*cking hope this shit doesn't get lost in the damn comments. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME THAT'D BE TL;DR: This OP has very good ideas, but some need to be tweaked a bit. I offered my personal ideas for solutions, and hopefully you support us both.

                      • A friend and I were talking about this just the other day, about how nice it would be if the Vault or Crota would/could be relevant or challenging again. We went back and forth with conversation and I had the idea of monthly heroic raids! One a month with different modifiers weekly. But instead of just having old gear drop at new light level, perhaps some tweaks could be made to appearance and perks, also the gear could drop at 3 light so nothing is just handed to you. And I hate to say it but if this were to happen I think the primaries should have their elements removed, or maybe have one of these elemental cores drop upon each weekly completion. Just a few thoughts between friends, feel free to point out any problems or improvements you may find
Xylar for president 2016
