SBMM
For those who don't know, SBMM stands for Skill Based MatchMaking, and it's the system currently in place.
It's a protocol used in matchmaking for the Crucible (maybe PVE stuff too, a little unsure about that myself) that ensures players are more likely to be matched with allies and opponents of similar skill level to theirs.
Some (including myself) dislike this mode for various reasons, some of which are:
* Due to skill level being prioritised over connection, most games are laggy AF.
* Due to always being put against players of a similar skill level to yours, it's difficult to know if you're improving or not.
CBMM
CBMM, or Connection Based MatchMaking, is the system that was originally in place up until sometime near the end of 2015. It prioritised connection over skill, and thus most matches ran a lot smoother.
Some are against this mode for the following reasons:
* You could get grouped with allies or opponents with vastly different skill levels than yours, causing a great number of matches to be ridiculously one-sided.
* ....No, that's pretty much the only reason I can think of.
Since both systems have their ups and downs, I believe Bungie should have both systems running and allow players to switch between them in the options menu. This would allow any player to have the matchmaking experience that would be most beneficial to them.
