Possible fix to Local Networking Issues

I posted this earlier today but thought it would be better poted here hence the re post. Since the update that caused Local fire teams unable to join, me and my family have had an horrendous time joining each other, there are four of us and at most only 2 can join at any one time and my one son since the update cannot join any of us we all have open Nats and have tried every trick in the book to get this to work. We are running on the Netgear Nighthawk 7800. Now this is where it becomes interesting today finally we now are all joined as a fireteam how did I manage this you will ask, well simple. Today I installed an open source firmware from Myopenrouter.com this particular firmware was created by Master developer Kong "a big thank you to him" for the R7800. From what I have read most Routers are not Fully UPnP which looks like may be one of the major causes of multiple Xboxes connecting at any one time. to possibly fail. The updated fireware i beleive now gives me full UPnP. Basically now in my UPnP table it shows:- Teredo Yes 3074 3074 192.168.1.109 UDP Teredo Yes 49365 49365 192.168.1.115 UDP DemonwarePortMapping Yes 1200 1200 192.168.1.115 UDP DemonwarePortMapping Yes 1201 1201 192.168.1.109 UDP Teredo Yes 56730 56730 192.168.1.111 UDP DemonwarePortMapping Yes 1202 1202 192.168.1.111 UDP Teredo Yes 49644 49644 192.168.1.137 UDP DemonwarePortMapping Yes 1203 1203 192.168.1.137 UDP known to some DemonwarePortMapping is for a number of online games previous this would not show on my old firmwares UPnP table. Now it may just be a case of perhaps setting up port triggering on those ports or port forwarding on ports 1200 onwards as the table shows above I don't know as I wont be trying it out as everything is working now. I know this has been a major heart ache for a lot of Destiny players and I hope that perhaps this will rectify any future problems for you all as it has now done so for me. My daughter is going to be over the moon when she gets back from school finally we can all Raid together again as Destiny was ment for. Good luck to all in your struggle for connection.

  • I took off the instant on option and the option to update app/games in the background on one of our One's and that worked. It's worth a try.

Thank you so much. I bought another PS4 to play with my son and wasn't able to until today that I tried your post. Instead of port forwarding I used port triggering on all the ports suggested by you. It is finally working. Thank you.

  • There is a way you can check for your router's support for these protocols through Windows. Will need to have a couple services enabled and running to do it though. Can probably check on Mac's too... but haven't tinkered with an Apple computer since High School...and those were Apple IIe's. In the search/run box, run services.msc to get to the list of services you can stop/start and enable/disable. Need to make sure SSDP Discovery and UPnP Device Host services are not disabled. Right-click them to get to their properties page and change them to Manual startup if they are disabled. Do SSDP first, then UPnP, then you can start UPnP afterwards (it will start SSDP for you). Now your router should show up under Network in your file browser or if you go into Control Panel/Network and Internet and click the link to "View Network Computers and Devices". Right-click that entry for your router and select properties. Might take a moment for it to show the properties page because it runs a series of queries to it first. Click the "Settings" button on the General tab and you should see a list of supported services you can toggle on/off for Windows to use. Will likely show a couple UDP port mappings and then the DemonwarePortMapping and Teredo services. If by chance they do not show on the list, then you may need to take a closer look at your router settings or maybe get your hands on a new firmware. Many support open-source type firmwares like tomato, dd-wrt, and Merlin to name a few. My Asus RT-AC66 supports them with the latest base firmware (tried Merlin a year or so back, but flipped back to the official one because of weirdness with printing). Check with your manufacturer's support portals for details on firmware options. **remember to go back and stop/disable those services again if they were turned off before**

    • Bungie can't do anything right, I'm also having connection issues even though I'm technically "online"

    • Since doing what i said in my post today has been the best day ever not had 1 single issue where we could not join locally it looks as though I have fixed our local fireteam connection issue. It obviously ha something to do with the fact a lot of standard routers just are not fully UPnP compatible or maybe I am just dam lucky who knows, or may be the fact is that those extra ports being ported to each console has sorted the issue. Not seen any info elsewhere regarding those ports 1200 onwards, so maybe that's the answer. Gl in whatever you all try.
