MY GOSH BUNIGE!!!! WHY!!!!
Goodness sakes, I cant say this enough, please don't remove old classes and gear from the game in Destiny 2. I've worked my poor thumbs off trying to get this gear, and I don't want it all to go away. The gear is one of the reasons I like Destiny more than Halo. The fact that I could carry over my gear is why I even bought Rise of Iron. If you make me start over in Destiny 2 I will literally track your employees down one by one [spoiler]Just Joking[/spoiler]. But really bungie, this game will lose so many players if it restarts. Come on guys of the Destiny community, did you really grinds for days in strikes, raids, Iron banners and Trials Flawless runs to have it all taken away. We need bungie to see this, before they ruin it all.
Edit: So I've heard all of your sides, and here is what I think would fit Destiny 2 the best. Unless I can keep all of my gear.
You start as a new character, a new subclass of guardian, the opening cut scene enters on a tale of the original, 'Guardian" (If you were a Original Destiny player it would look like your guardian the day before the game came out.) And talks of the wonders the Guardian preformed for the old tower. It also tells of how He/She fell in one final battle for the City. Then there is the new Story, where at one point you get to meet the ghost of your first guardian who tells you about Him/Her, new campaign and new gear. But then at endgame, original Destiny players get to get sent on a quest that redeems their favorite emblems shaders, ships and sparrows. Maybe even a few choice pieces of Exotic and Legendary Gear. The also get to design an Artifact and name it after their previous guardian and give it special powers.

3 RepliesMass Effect handle this pretty well in my opinion. You had to restart, but they tied your former charterer into the new story. Bungie could learn a few things from the Mass Effect series IMO.

I love Destiny but it lacks any real story to feel involved in... Our characters don't even have names. So in D2 the opening scene would be something like, Ghost: "Hey, some guy, wake up. You passed out again." We definitely need a restart. With and actual story. Otherwise this will always remain a gorgeous shoot and loot with less of "real" world feel than Borderlands.

Here is the main problem and my opinion on why they will make us start over... 1. They will completely overhaul the subclasses... This means that if they don't change the super per subclass they will at least change almost all the branch perks... You cannot make a destiny 2 without changing these subclasses... Do you expect to have the same ones for years? No. Also they know they flaws with their subclasses. They know we want Sunsinger to come back but have a support utility. If they keep the current gear the perks won't make sense with the subclasses anymore. Like what if there is no Defender or Ward of Dawn? What will your Helm of Saint 14 do? 2. All the changes will drastically change how the weapons are balanced...who knows the weapon archetypes could even change. This could make one old exotic very out of place and overpowered or far less powerful than it was.

They may lose some players, but if they fix ANYTHING that is in D1 (cough cough Dedicated servers), then they'll more than make up for it. If you want to keep your shit then keep playing.

2 RepliesThen when d2 comes out, bugle releases an update saying "Hey years 1-3 players! Missing your old guardians? For $20, you can transfer your lowest light guardian to D2! For an extra $30, you can transfer your second highest light guardian to D2, and for an extra $50, you can transfer your highest light guardian to D2! For $60 all your weapons in your vault will be transferred over and for $70 all the gear and weapons currently in your guardian's inventories will be transferred over and become completely obsolete. All this on top of an $80 base game with 3 years of paid DLC. Have fun guardian's!"

1 ReplyI'd like to keep Grimoire. Any year 1 - 3 'Endgame' emblems (Crota, Oryx, Atheon, Skolas etc., etc.). 'Endgame or Quest/challenge' Ships (Spindle, Crota, Skolas, Yada Yada) The rest of it they can leave in this beta test. I'll start a new Guardian and build him all over again. And throw money at the screen while i do it.

Why does it matter if we keep our characters or not? When you play a final fantasy game and put 200 hours in grinding for the best stuff once you get the next installment you have to do it all over again. I would rather us have to get ALL NEW things then using the same old stuff again. IMO.

Secondly I dont want them to because I want all new weapons. Weve had 3 years of the same weapons Lastly the balancing act making sure all this gear and the new gear is balanced would be too much work. How about just -Some emblems -Your guardian Some of you are acting so femanine its insane. "I want all muh guns and gear even though 99% of the time 99% of it sits in muh vault"

Regardless of what you want the games already in development phase just like infinite warfare the trailer got so much hate and they knew they -blam!-ed up but it was far too late so they just remastered some old shit to get the hype up. To put it simply I'd rather start fresh there's plenty of other games I've put hundreds of hours into and left behind I've still got my achievements my pictures and videos it's time to move forward and you can't do that looking backwards. Besides the best days of playing destiny for me was the fresh starting of my guardian, however my godamn shaders better transfer over!! You guys can collect armor and guns I just like my shaders but do they ever get showcased in a twitch stream about the new dlc? Nope. Shader haters......

Can I keep Thorn as a Vanity item I keep in my Trophy room? That way I can spontaneously send old players into PTSD attacks.

I just want to keep emblems, ships, and shaders. I think Bungie will probably let those carry over, otherwise what's the point of MoT and emblems from special events?
