You should keep the rng for the skeleton keys how it is now.
But here's what we should do for those running a big amount of strikes in a row getting unlucky with the drops.
You get a gaurenteed skeleton key after 10 strikes. Heroic strikes and strikes from the siva playlist counts as 1 strike but nightfalls count as 2.
That honestly seems fair. 10 strikes is not too much and not too little. I mean I don't mind doing 5 nightfalls for a skeleton key. It's worth it cause the loot from those chests are usually higher than your gear by at least 3. Plus the artifacts are worth the grind. And for those who think 10 is too much it's really not considering you can level up from everything now. Archons forge. Raid. Trials. Three of coins. Even crucible.

This is a good idea

I think doing the nightfall should just guarantee one. They should also add more strike specific gear IMO.

It's wabbit season

Xur should sell them, id happily pay 50 strange coins for one simply because rng wont give me many (i've had 3 in about 50 ish hours of gameplay).
-
I get them fairly often. I wish they would buff the drop rate of exotic engram's and have them have a higher chance of giving you something you don't have. I want a telesto. On another note: keys go to the postmaster, if anyone was wondering.
-
OOOR... Buff the already existing consecutive strike rewards, more legendaries, which doesnt seem to work at all, and add skeleton keys to that list, higher drop chance for consecutive playing strikes
-
10 strikes too much? Shit I run a lot more than 10 when I want to do strike runs, it could be 20 and I'd still be alright with that.

Nice idea. I like it
-
I agree this should be implemented
only gotten one key I cri every time
I like the idea of a surefire way to obtain keys Your idea would be good, im thinking however of a certain task or activity , like a bounty which you would complete each week for the guaranteed key
