When I wanted to use my Siva offering in the Archon's Forge but my friends weren't online.
I asked players in the area to join me.
We could not play together unless we joined a fire team. Is this a bug problem ? If not can you change it to where we can join a session in progress.

Archon's Forge is a lot of fun, but there are too many issues surrounding it to really make it an activity you can really enjoy. From it having it's own, secluded area with inconsistent matchmaking, to the drop rates on offerings and not being allowed to carry more than one or vault them via app, to the lack of guaranteed rewards. I understand not wanting to make it heavily farmable activity, but the measures are too heavily weighed against it.

It's similar to the court of oryx except that the forge is its own area of the plague lands much like the rocket yard or the divide are their own parts of the cosmodrome. The court was just located within another area. When you are travelling through the hallway that leads to the forge, your game is looking for a populated instance of the forge to put u in. Sometimes u can see people in there but when u hit the top of the stairs is when the game puts u into whatever instance it found for u so they will disappear but are hopefully replaced with others. In order to improve your chances of finding people in the forge, walk through that hallway from the previous area. This gives the game more time to find you a good instance with people rather than giving up and creating a new instance for just u. You are on the money with being able to join a session in progress though. Having a node on the map to go right there with additional time for matchmaking would be a good way to fix a lot of the gripes about the forge as it is.

I'm confused. I join randoms to do this. Only once was I part of their fire team.

When you get to the Forge, it registers as a new activity. It's like when you play solo missions, and can see other people until you hit a certain point, unless you're in a fireteam. As soon as "Archon's Forge" pops up, it changes.
