Looking to build gaming computer

As the title says I'm looking to build a gaming computer, but I would also need it to run office programs. Any parts in particular that are good for both? My list so far is: Intel Core i5 6600k 32 GB DDR4 2133 MHz RAM gtx 1060 480 GB ADATA SSD 1 TB Hybrid Seagate HDD Wifi PCIe card Blu-ray/DVD/CD Reader/Writer 650 Watt power source

  • I don't care for seagate hardware. Especially after building a raid. All 10 drives failed after 15 min of testing. Got my money back and went for a different brand. Lost one drive over the year with WD. But that's a better ratio for life expectancy. So Samsung SSD and WD HDD are a good combo.

    • Go with an i5 and a 980ti or 1070.

    • MS office suite will run fine on an i3. There is no point in getting an i7 unless you're going to be using very intense programs for 3d model rendering, video editing heavily every day, etc. You'll be fine with an i5 6600k. Then take that extra money you save on the cpu and put it into your gpu. You should be able to get a Gtx 1070, 980ti, or R9 FuryX all of which are a significant upgrade and perform roughly the same.

        • If you are doing a lot of editing/rendering, i7 is great because it has hyper threading. If not, I would suggest getting an Intel core i5 6600k. I7's are great though and it's really up to you, that's just what I would suggest ;).

          • You don't really need most of this, especially the DVD drive. Unless you're that kind of person, you won't really use it. I haven't even used it once

What sort of office products are you using? Any gaming computer will be more than enough for your standard office stuff. If you are running engineering like applications though you'll need some specialized and expensive hardware. If it's just normal stuff like excel or project you'll be fine with pretty much anything. Only thing I'd suggest is install 64bit versions of the software if you are working with very large files. Only thing I'd suggest is dropping the wifi card and run a wire to your computer. Will help with latency in gaming. Your PSU is a bit overkill but meh.

              • That processor is overkill for what you need. Get a i7 6700k at most.

                • 8-16 GB of RAM should be enough Perhaps one of the newer cards, I believe it's something along the lines of 1060,1070 and 1080

                  • You would be better off getting an rx480 or gtx 1060 than a 970
