I disagree with so much in this statement. First of all, with the public school system, it is the state that designs the curriculum, not the teachers. In many places the teachers are held back from teaching because of politics and parents who are more interested in seeing little Billy pass than learn something. Trust me, teachers want to teach.
Second, while a more challenging curriculum would be nice, we have to be careful how it is implemented. School is a K-12 experience with everything build on itself. A new curriculum should be introduced at the Kindergarten level and have students work their way through it. If you just change everything in an instant, then you could screw up the current generation that is currently in school.
