A Question About the Organization of Guardians

Alright, so the Guardians are the de facto military of the Last City, but what is the organization of this military? Are there traditional units, such as battalions, companies, and platoons? We know that at least the rank of Commander exists, but what does it mean? Are the Guardians just a collective of warriors, or is there a method to this madness? Edit: And are there any other armed forces besides the Guardians? I recall seeing some Frames with snipers in a ViDoc or something, but it was a while back.

  • The titans are the closest to a conventional military force. They man the City's walls and patrol it's streets. They have a codex of accumulated military history and tactical knowledge. They are the best equipped to deal with large scale enemy attacks.

  • In the Gjallahorn mission we learn the city has its own defense force. I think the standing army of the city don't have Ghosts. The Guardians and the Vanguard are to the city defense force what SOCOM and Special Forces are to our modern military. Guardians tend to focus on small squad tactics so platoons and divisions and the like would probably be superfluous. I've heard the Tower PA call out specific Fire teams by name so I think they just organize Guardians by Fire Team with the Vanguard council acting as SOCOM.

    • Guardians don't have any obligation to any organization to the City, sny mission we go on if one we choose to accept. So there isn't any "military" per say, instead there are multiple different factions and orders. The Vanguard don't own the Guardians (as displayed in this Infection outbreak and Guardian refusal to abide by the quarantine) but they do offer a lot to the Guardians, such as guidance, tips and tricks, powerful armor and weaponry and general mentorship. Since they're the first people to interact with young Guardians, they're seen as the main organization. But Guardians can do pretty much anything they want (Ex: Trinary Star Cult, Sunbreaker Order, Dead Orbit) and as a result a lot of different Warlock and Titan orders form. Hunters usually stay solo from that. So basically a conglomerate of freelance warriors. And there is a non-Guardian Army known as the Forces of the City

      • Titans. Titans are the "military". Warlocks are intelligence. Hunters are asshat cowboys that go in lone wolf and guns blazing to -blam!- shit up. But never on an order, always because it sounded like a good time.
