I think the best way to reintroduce elemental primaries into the game would be to have an "Elemental Core" drop from endgame content at a low rate. It would be something you definitely wouldn't be getting more than one per account per week. You would receive a Solar/Arc/Void core that could be infused into any legendary primary weapon once it reaches the max light level. It would force you to make tough decisions with them, and create a lot more sandbox diversity. It would also add another item worth continuing play for.

No. People will continue to use one gun, but instead of one copy of that gun, they will have 3 copies of the same gun, but with 3 different elemntal damages. That is mean that there is still no diversity in the existing of infusable elemental item.
-
...um...isn't that what's happening now? There's no elemental primaries so people pick a weapon they like and go with it. They're using the same weapon without elemental damage that they would with elemental damage. This would change absolutely nothing.
-
THis. Exactly this.

And even if you had 3 OG Hung Jury's, each with a different element.. That would be 3 different guns. So, it absolutely would increase sandbox diversity. It would add bonus damage in certain situations, but people would still use whatever weapon(s) they're most comfortable with, just with a burn on them.

So that will extend the grind for 3 exact versions of that weapon. If it's not something that can be purchased from a vendor, good luck getting that done before the sequel launches next year.

Love the idea! Not crazy about the once it reaches max light level though. Maybe once the gun is fully upgraded and infused you have to get x amount of PvP + PvE kills with said gun to power it up? Thoughts?

Perhaps using the Elemental Core would require using abilities of the type you select? If you prefer Void, you select it and follow steps using, say, a Voidwalker to power it up in PvE and PvP? A second idea would be to infuse a weapon with the desired element into the core to power it up.
