Mara Sov Speculation for Destiny 2.

At the beginning of the taken king cinematic, after the ghosts monologue we hear Mara Sov speaking. Her words were 'I remember everything about the day I was born. I still bear the scars. The Awoken are MY FAMILY NOW. And I am their queen. We fought to keep our beautiful creation safe, and now this beast has come claiming to be king. Mara Sov bows to no one.' She's then surrounded by her guard to summon Axion Bolts to attack the Dreadnaught. Could it be, that Eris is her mother? She was born in the depths of the hive and maybe the spawn of Crota, or Oryx or one of the many hive priests? The hive are known for their destruction, if she is part hive - the power she summoned to destroy the Dreadnaught rivals that of an Ultra like the Pride of Oryx - Malok. She talks about her birth, and how she still bears the scars. Was she born out of a hive ritual performed on Eris? Could that be the reason why her eyes were taken? This is all speculative since we don't have much history on the Queen or the time Eris spent surrounded by the hive. I'm also interested in the three guards surrounding Mara Sov during her attack and Oryxs retaliation, they had a similar look to Exalted hive wizards. Does Savathun have a place in all of this? And will Destiny 2 clear up the relationship between Eris and Mara, along with what really happened in the pit. And if Savathun is involved, are Eris and the Queen pawns in her game for being freed from the depth of Crotas pit? I'd like to hear some of your thoughts, again this is all speculative, but her monologue in the taken king opening sequence has a lot behind it, if only a few words.

  • Those bolts are Harbingers, her personal weapon. They're like the Reef's nukes.

  • Grimoire card: The Aftermath "Do not fear, brother. This was the only choice I had.” The sound of her voice ripped him from sleep. He jumped up; his ship was still contained in its protective sphere. He tried to retract the shield, but it was locked to its initiation time. He couldn’t remember activating it. Then he remembered the battle. That blast. What that ship fired was ancient, not bound to anything the Origin Libraries even sought to describe. He tried to calm down. He thought of her, searching for her pull. He couldn’t find it, but he was not calm. She always told him she would always be there behind the calm. All he could hear were echoes of that sound. It began as soon as they hit the ring plane, ringing in the old glimmer of his long-buried self. Before she showed him who he was—in the before and the after. The Techeuns should’ve known what the Dreadnaught could do. Must’ve known. Did they not feel what he felt? Hear what he heard? And that damn Ketch, it wasn’t protected. They had to know that. All to deploy the Harbingers. They barely got a foothold before the weapon was fired. He thought of Petra and how overwhelmed she must be, forced to hold her post, and watch her people perish. He tried to calm himself again, forcing long breaths. He realized where he was: Mars. Athabasca. The Candor Isles. He hadn’t been here in so long, not since he found the Black Garden. The countdown to the shield’s deactivation pulsed. He tried again, to home in on her, to find if she truly gave herself for this battle. He felt close to something, a hum of starlight, then shield deactivation broke his focus. He climbed out and saw the damage to his ship, and the truths of the armada's devastation sunk in. He turned in despair to find hundreds of his Crow drones, deployed on Mars long ago, circling his ship, waiting. “Welcome back, Master.” The one closest to him spoke first, and the others followed, a wave of salutations echoed throughout the dry sea. And with that hope returned. “Begin repairs on the ship immediately. Something has gone missing and you will help me find it.”

  • I speculate her being an antagonist in the sequel. Nobody with that much ancient power lore wise ever ends up being the protagonist.

  • What's all of this about axion darts? Those were the Harbingers, and they don't "rival" Malik's powers, they brutally beat them within an inch of their life, run them over forty times, set them on fire, and throw them off of a cliff into a black hole.

    • They weren't guards, they were the techeuns (awoken priests who are given powers through implants), and the things they summoned were harbingers (we're not entirely sure what exactly they are, but they can have children and are currently doing so within the dreadnought). As for Mara and Eris, they're friends but not blood relatives. There is a lot of evidence however that link the Hive and awoken together. Mara could possibly be Savathûn or Taox, though that's higly speculative.

    • I'm still curious about her connection to the nine. She's the only person in the game who has had direct dealings with them (other than xur who isn't too helpfull with the whole "my will is not my own" thing). Its likely she knows more about the nines intentions than any one else, and they are DEFINITELY up to something. They sell us awesome gear for mysterious items no one else has a use for, and also set skolas against us after Mara sov gave him to them. It's an odd mix of helfull and aggressive, and Mara sov is definitely connected somehow

      • Read the grimoire card: The Coven. Talks about the preps for the dreadnaught attacks with the Harbingers and the Techeuns. Good info

      • The three that surrounded her are the Techeuns (they're like Awoken sorcerers). In the grimoire, they summoned all of the Harbingers except the oldest one.

      • A lot of people are saying that she will return, I highly doubt that. I only know for sure her brother will because it says in a grimoire card that he crashed on Mars (somehow)

        • The 3 awoken surrounding here were the Techuns, kinda like wizards, but awoken. There's actually a whole council of them. Then what she summoned were the Harbringers. Here eyes also didn't become Taken, they were a brighter blue that almost matched the color of her irises. I doubt that the queen and Eris are related, at least in that way of a family relationship.

        • The 3 surrounding her are the harbringers, mentioned in the telesto description. The theory is cool but unlikely
