Legacy players who can't download Destiny the Collection - Upgrade for Xbox One

Here's the info I got after 5 days of troubleshooting: I talked to Microsoft one more time, the issue is being looked into and if anyone wants to call support and check on the status of the issue (or be a squeaky wheel) it is Service request number : [b]1352871966[/b] in the Xbox support system. Microsoft's official stance is that Bungie is telling them to let players know they need to wait until Sept 19, 2016 to purchase the Upgrade. While Bungie's website still says this: [quote]Destiny - The Collection Upgrade To be eligible to purchase Destiny - The Collection Upgrade, players must own Destiny: The Taken King on the accounts for which they are purchasing the bundle. Legacy Console players who own Destiny: The Taken King on their Legacy Consoles are eligible to upgrade their Destiny content to a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One console by purchasing Destiny - The Collection Upgrade. It says this on the xbox website, in the xbox one store, in the Windows 10 app and on the xbox iOS app. The choice for us is to either buy the full "Destiny the Collection" or wait until the 19th. Fred M, what an awesome guy! Turns out he's a fellow Guardian, right on! He has confirmed that this is an issue and has updated service request 1352871966 to contain clearer information. If you are asking Microsoft support for updates please use 1352871966. He re-assured me that this will be looked into and has hope that it will be solved before Sept 19, 2016. While other guardians seem to be making a bit of headway too I was very happy to have direct contact with someone who understands the issue and is willing to work toward resolution. I should clarify though, he also doesn't know where the issue in located but feels that Bungie should be able to fix it. ******EVEN BETTER UPDATE******** https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/212136919 [b] ********COMMUNITY SOLUTION*********** Thanks to @Jamie for this!!!! Here's my experience: It took about an hour and a half of explanations with the support chat rep but they finally allowed me to try this method. If anyone else would like to try this please refer the support agent to case 1354872629 (my case). Here are the steps I had to do: 1. Call or live chat with an xbox agent at https://support.xbox.com/ and make 100% sure you already own the Xbox 360 taken king game on your live account (keep the agent on the line) 2. (Re)Purchase the Destiny Taken King Legendary edition on the xbox 360 store 3. Keep confirming the purchase until you have downloaded the 108kb Taken king license file (no need to download anything else) 4. Boot up your Xbox one, search for the Destiny the Collection - Upgrade in the xbox one store it should now be able to purchase!!! 5. Ask the agent to refund you the recent purchase of the Xbox 360 Legendary edition (if they need a reason to return, mention that you have duplicated the same game content on your account) 6. Wipe the salty tears of joy from your eyes and start playing Destiny again with everything unlocked (minus Rise of Iron currently)[/b]

  • Workaround DOES NOT WORK. Just spent an hour with a great Microsoft rep who looked up this exact post, and we followed it to the letter; no dice. I'm not saying that it did not work for OP or that he lied; I have no way of knowing that. But it did not work for me and is not a solution to the issue. Also, FYI, if you try this, your $29.99 Taken King Legendary Edition purchase does take 48-72 hours to refund, so don't risk this if you can't spend that money. Furthermore, the Microsoft Rep (also a Destiny player psyched for Rise of Iron) could not find any other possible solution, and believed the issue is on Bungie's end. She felt bad about having to just suggest I contact Bungie (again), but neither of has had any other possible solutions. Bungie, I love you guys, but it's really starting to look like you're just waiting for Rise of Iron to come out instead of responding or solving this issue, and hoping we just give up and stop bothering you.

      • Hey I got mine to work please share for others! I chatted with Microsoft for over an hour and finally asked can I re buy taken king on my 360 and get a refund? cuz my 360 shows I didn't buy it but I really did, it was just not the current bundle with expansions 1 and 2.... This unlocked the 39.99 collection upgrade! So happpppppy! My thought was destiny isn't seeing I qualify for the upgrade.... I was right! Hope this makes sense and helps others

              • It seems like I might be making my progress on my issue. I will let you know if I get this sorted out. I got an email from xbox support. This is what it said. "This is regarding your issue with the Destiny upgrade. We will need a screenshot of your account showing that you own the 360 version of the game. To do that, log in your account on xbox.com website, click on your gamerpic at the upper right hand corner of the page, from the dropdown menu, choose Profile. Then choose My Games beside Messages. That's where you can see your Xbox One and 360 games. Then please take a screenshot of the full webpage showing the Destiny game, attach it to this email and send it back to me."

                  • I'm having the same issue. So, what's occurring is that I can't play the Taken King content on my brand new Xbox one, until the 19th when Rise of Iron comes out? This is asinine and hopefully Bungie or Microsoft will address this soon.

                      So out of this negative situation that's brought us together I'm wondering if we can create something positive? You guys want to form a clan? We can call it Enraged Legacy Upgraders (ELU)? Turns out "elu" is an ancient language akin to our ancient consoles lol. I'm completely open to other Clan names: Harambe's Legacy, Last Consoles Heroes, Angry Legacy Guardians, Killer Bees...Wasp....Hornet.....isn't there a Bee emblem we could use? ;D Edit: I'm going over to other social media platforms to see if we can get some love elsewhere.

                        • I suppose they don't want any of us playing the game until then. Or they are hoping people will crack and spend the extra money so they can play now. I will say that I will not spend the extra money on this. I have more than shown my support for this title through 4 copies of the game on different consoles, all of the dlc (on each console), plus about $500 through the bungie store. I feel like I should be getting all of this for free after what I have forked out to these monkey-faced, money grubbing whores. Thanx bungie. And more importantly, thanx EA. Eat a veiny man sausage.

                          • the reason why to many people can't upgrade is because they don't qualify the game need to be digital and not a hard copy if you don't have the digital copy you need to repurchase the game on xbox one or ps4. you need to repurchase the game because it need to be digital copy to be able to upgrade not a hard copy. Players wishing to upgrade from a Legacy Console to a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One console may need to re-purchase the previous Destiny game or expansions to access Destiny content from the Destiny game or expansions.                             • It's another shady business practice. From what I can gather at this stage it's either bite the bullet and pay the extra money or wait till the 19 September and get what's rightfully been offered to us at that discount price (using the upgrade bundle) They know most people won't wait. I personally see very little help or advice and they know people will not wait for the most part.

                                • So in the end, they make another promise they don't hold. Way to go Bungie. A few friends of mine read this message, bought an Xbox One, anticipating to upgrade their destiny 'experience' and farm some stuff with me on xbox one before launch. They can, if they pay more. Everything they do in game right now on their 360 doesn't matter once Rise of Iron releases, as Legacy consoles are split already. Bungie cut off part of their players, tells them it's ok if they upgrade and even makes it less expensive to do so, but then stabs them right in the back by declining them this offer and leaving te game unplayable in the meantime. Good job Bungie, now go fix this before you lose a substantial part of your player base to the fact that you can't keep promises. Again.
