Has anyone else been as frustrated as me at Chaperone quest?

Don't get me wrong, I love this game more than words can express. I have over 1300 hours invested and ain't going anywhere. But yesterday I started my final quest before Rise of Iron launches - the Jolly Holliday quest. Three games in and I have been doing decent. Got the quest percentage up to 52% and pretty happy at how quickly this is going. Then I had two very bad games ... as we all do. But I shrugged and knew it would be better next game. Then I checked my quest tracker .... for whatever reason my progress was erased and I was back down to 22% ... I am sorry, but that is just wrong. I says nowhere on the quest that deaths count against you. I mean, not that one would try to die anyways, but still. I was floored to learn that this was left out of the quest and somehow feel extremely cheated by Bungie. I can't help but feel like just abandoning the quest even though it's a gun I really want because let's face it ... XUR will be selling it as a legacy engram NEXT September. LOL Does anyone have any advice, pointers, or just wanna share their frustration with me? To know I'm not alone would make all the difference. My PSN is Jeremiah_VA88 should anyone want to help or play together. I am sorry to rant or seem like I am complaining, but I don't let much bother me in this game and grinding for everything doesn't phase me one bit .. but parameters being left out of a quest that negatively impact you is just dirty on Bungie's end. EDIT: Thanks to everyone for the tips, stories and suggestions. As of last night, I am currently on the "Bide Your Time" step, which is the final step as all I have to do now is wait until the weekly reset next week. I am beyond excited to play with this weapon!!

What concerns me about this quest is that, if my understanding of the rules is correct, that you can pull an even K/D and still lose ground. My understanding is that it's this: Last Word Kill: 1 point Last Word headshot: 2 points Non Last Word Kill: Nothing Kill streak: Unspecified number of points Match victory: 3 points Death: Lose 2 points So say you get 15 kills and 11 deaths. Say you get 6 TLW kills, half headshots. 9 points. Assume, say four shottie kills, two heavy kills, a grenade, and two with your super. 0 points. Assume 1 point for a two-kill streak. Assume four two-kill streaks. We'll say that's one point each (might be zero, doubt it';s more). 4 points. 11 deaths. Lose 22 points. Kill/Death ratio: 1.364 9 points lost. To put it another way, this quest can only be achieved by people who are either very good in the Crucible... or else very lucky. If that was Bungie's intent, to create a gun that only a few high-end Crucible players can get, they have succeeded admirably. I know that it's possible to switch guns at the last minute 34 times when you're winning. And there are other ways to do it as well: exploit Supers and heavy, fool the SBMM software by deliberately losing, there might even be people who do carries in this quest. It's just unfortunate that we have to.

        • Played mayhem clash all today and yesterday and I'm at like 25% I think I'm gonna put my TLW in the vault (cus I hate it and it's not fun) and use something I can actually hit enemies with. And I'll just accept that I'll never have the chaperone.

          • Just a pointer, but I completed it by only equipping it when I knew I would get multiple kills (for example: when using your super), then unequip it after your super is done.

Thats what i didnt get, why do you lose progress even with a positiv kd? Kind of stupid. But then, getting a killstreak rewards 10 points, and each kill after that gets you 3. at least they could have made it so that a positiv kd gains you points

I did the entirety of that on my third match using last word, on my warlock in control, 41 kills 5.13 kd, it was intense, wish I recorded it, but check my best game in control you'll see it.

              • I just did that part of the quest yesterday, my advice is to camp a lot. I think camping is cheap, but I've discovered that if you simply sit back and play with your teammates, making an effort to go on 5-10 kill streaks, it goes by quickly. Also, if you're on a death streak, back out and find a new lobby. Hope that helps. Good luck Guardian.

              • Haha the quest is absolute garbage. Back in the days I completed it on my titan with ease. Now I was going trough my quests on other characters and noticed I got this one on my warlock. I can't even get a 1% progress stat at the end of a crucible match 😅

              • I got lucky and completed the crucible percentage step during last SRL, that was what got me through it. I was also a solo player without a clan or people to play with at that time so I was on my own.

              • I started using TLW in Trials and i finished it easily there. I dont die much in trials thats probably why though. Perhaps using it in rumble is good for you?

              • This is the way I did it. When my super was ready to go I would hide, equip TLW, and then unleash the super hoping for a double or triple kill. Then I would take off TLW and right before the end of the match if I knew it was gonna be a win I would equip TLW and try not to die, if it was a loss I would do nothing. Took about 5 or 6 matches to complete the quest.

              • I found a cheat but long way to do it. Play the game without it on and then right before your team wins switch to it and don't die and you'll gain 3%

              • I was just very patient, I would only equip before kill streaks, then remove, or equip before a win. Took me a while, but it was less frustrating then seeing my percentage fluctuate so much.

Any mayhem mode will be your friend. Multi kills while the last word is equipped count for a lot towards the requirenent. I did mine when TTK came out in a normal control playlist. I used my normal primary until I either had heavy or my super. Once I had those, I switched to the last word and got as many multi kills as I could. Because if my lack of skill it took me about four hours to complete. The reason why I suggested mayhem is because my friend did his in an hour and a half just by getting multi kills with his super while having the last word equipped.
