Simple question, could a decent Triple A studio have made a NMS that people wanted.

I don't know. Maybe. NMS's problem was that it was an indie game being hyped with not just the marketing force of a third party but one of the major platform holders. Had Sony not adopted it as some flagship title, which is was never intended to be, then I bet the reception right now would be exponentially higher. NMS was meant to be maybe a $40 digital only game that catches people by surprise.

No. A big studio would not even have touched such a huge scale project. Indie: Big risk, big reward. Big Leagues: Play it safe, only do what's popular and only do enough to make the most amount of money.

It would have its own source of problems. Such as, its publisher putting in micro transactions
