Why do you guys expect gamestop to give you $55 for your used game?

Im guessing a lot of you are little kids that complain about how gamestop is ripping you off. If you go and trade in halo 3 you cant expect them to give you $20 for it... that game cost like $5.... Or i always see the "i traded in 7 games and got $5".. We're those 8 year old games that probably cost $3 used? Edit: for the people telling BS stories, i can pretty much tell when your lying since gamestop shows the trade in value on their website... so far 4 of you people below have been caught talking out of your rear

Apparently people think that Gamestop is charity instead of a company looking to profit. Its funny when they get mad when they see used games for $50 and when they trade it in, they get $20. Its like they pretend Gamestop is going to buy use game and not resell them to make a profit.

  • For dark souls 3 and Battleborn I was going to get $30 I think. Dark souls is pretty new and I bought it used from them for $47. They give you 1/3rd of what they plan to sell it for.

    • I mean it is a rip off, you can't say they don't rip people off, they totally do. The witcher is worth $20 as a trade in, but that's in store credit probably $15 or less cash. But they're selling used copies at $44. That is a complete and total rip off. Not only did they make money on the initial copy if you bought it there, but they dont even lose any money for taking it back because you have to use that money in their store, then they turn around and sell it for more than double what they gave you for it. What they do isn't wrong, it isn't -blam!-ed up, it isn't illegal, but it is a -blam!-ing rip off. If you trade in a game with them you're getting ripped off 100% of the time. If you choose to do that, it's on you, but let's call a spade a spade.

I've never sold a game in my life. The closest I've done to selling a game is trading gameboy cartridges with my friends and other neighborhood kids.

Gamestop is a rip off and if you can't see that then I'll pray for you. Ex: GTA V trade in is like $15 and they sell it for $50, they could at least give u 50% of what they sell it for. They would still make a 50% profit. Another ex: I bought a used Xbox one controller. They sold me one with a busted Lb and Lt and when I took it back they said "it's clearly you broke it I can't take a refund so I'll have to give you store credit but it will cost like $10 because the Lb and Lb to repair. So they give me $12 for a busted controller they sold me in the first place. That's why the only time i go to GS is when they have sale. How are they going to sell a new copy of a game and put that clear circle sticker and claim it as new, but also claim that if the packaging is off a game its used? Edit: Im Laughing my ass off seeing all these replies "they have a 7 day refund policy" and that's only for used games and they're talking about new games. Trying to defend Gamestop and don't even know they're policies.

            • I like getting a newer used game, playing it for a week and trading it back in for something else because they have a 100% refund rate within 7d for used games. it's like a perpetual 7 day rental lol

I'm more or less expecting like 10$ for a fairly new game instead of 4$ Also GameStop is a great place in general for me people I go to always know their shit and realize I'm not some stupid person who doesn't know shit about gaming. I have a GameStop app anyway so I know what I would et before going in to trade in

I don't think anyone expects $20 from a nine year old game. I don't like GameStop because they push their used market on their customers. For every new game they sell, they need to give money to the respective developers and publishers, but for every used or "refurbished" game sold they don't have to give any money to the developer. They get to keep 100% of it. I'm fine with it being there, but they try to get you to buy used so much for this reason.

                    • I've never traded my games. I used to like to collect them. Now I am strictly digital. All of my games, even the ones I don't like as much, have a special place in my heart. I couldn't imagine ever wanting to actually get rid of them.

                      • It should at least be a decent price. You can sell a game that just came out within a day and only get $30 when they sell it right back for $55. Some games should also be considered rare and give you a price based on that and not how old it is. They should never give you less than a couple bucks for any game.

Don't worry. Theyll regret it all and praise gamestops name after it shuts down in the future. Also I'm not sure why people buy and trade games when they can just rent them.

Isn't the price they offer you actually based on demand/inventory? For example, if they don't have any copies of a game and you trade it in, you're gonna be offered way more than if their inventory is full? Obviously I don't think this is a main factor, but doesn't it factor in a little bit?
