The current theory is using an alcubierre drive to traverse distances by contracting space in front of it and expanding space behind it, resulting in effective faster-than-light travel. It doesn't make sense to me but i'm not a physicist.
As for transmatt, i imagine its similar to star treks where matter is broken down in on place then reassembled in another.

Just think of an Alcubierre drive as riding a wave. It's literally as simple as that, though instead of water, you're moving through space-time.
