Not a theory... It is in the lore.
As long as a Guardians ghost survives, the Guardian can come back over and over.
If the Ghost dies, then the Guardian cannot come back.

There is also the chance that a Guardian's spark could go out, and are no longer reviveable

Yea but why do ghosts only die sometimes? Ive been blown up, burnt, flattened, sliced up, disintegrated and yet my ghost is stayin alive like john travolta.
-
Also, I think that is sort of how darkness zones work, where you go back to checkpoint if you die. It is suppose to be like, they killed your ghost, and you couldn't come back. So start over. You weren't actually resurrected per se. Just my thoughts on theat.

That makes sense.

Edited by Grimace221: 8/25/2016 2:25:13 PMObviously if they let your ghost die, you would lose your character... But by the lore, that is how it works. They also don't specify how eays or hard it is to kill your ghost, being a part of the traveller, I would wager it takes a little effort to kill them.

If you go into the prison of elders in the cabal room, in the center are ghosts hanging from chains like Christmas lights

Right, im just offering up a theory as to why. I cant tell if you agree or not. Thats okay. Im saying although your character (which we know will never perma-die because then you couldnt play) gets revived, in order to explain known accounts of perma death for guardians, I suggest that when the traveller runs out of light you and your ghost die permanently. Further, this generally occurs when guardians are dying in large numbers in a short time.

Just want to clarify something that is stated in one of the missions regarding the nature of light, and a theory of Ulan-Tan
If the Hive were able to infect the Traveler through this long-lost shard of its battered shell, Ulan-Tan's theory may be true - all Light remains connected, across space and time
Ulan-Tan believed that light is connected across space and time. That light is a universal force.
"Therefore, if Light connects across space and time, what is the Void? What role does the vacuum—the absence—play? What stops the Darkness from entering into the places between the stars? The answer is simple: the Void is just another type of Light." —Ulan-Tan

"The Sunsinger is proof that the Light is everywhere. The wings of Radiance allow a Guardian to fly beyond the veil. What further proof do you need, Speaker?" —Ulan-Tan
Edited by VicVinces: 8/25/2016 5:24:06 PMBut...maybe it needs a conduit like a ghost to revive something dead. Which makes me wonder do we revive dead ghosts or do our ghosts revive dead ghosts?

If a ghost is dead it probably can't be revived. Each spark of light is lost. From Dead Ghosts
Dead Ghosts View Card Battered and drained of their Light, these Ghosts are nevertheless valuable for the information they preserve. Their recovered memories may well prove vital to the City's survival. The problem of dead Ghosts troubles the City's scholars. Are new Ghosts still being born? Or is the number of Ghosts dwindling? Will there come a day when no more remain - an end to the rise of new Guardians? If that day is coming, then the City faces a desperate race against time to heal the Traveler before attrition takes its toll.
