A few iron banners ago, there was an issue where post-game rewards and reputation were not being rewarded to players after matches. During this time, I encountered this issue and discovered the rewards were being issued upon returning to orbit like normal, even if the game indicates no rewards were being issued. Bungie pushed through a patch to fix the issue within a day and it became a lost memory. That experience should have given me pause. I didn't really stop to think about it at the time and didn't even really start thinking about it until the recently concluded Iron Banner. I'm not a top-tier PvP Player by any definition of the word, but I don't really qualify as a Scrub either. My K/D averages about 1.5, my PS KD/A is in the top 1% overall, and my up-and-coming XB KD and KD/A are getting there. Sometimes, I'm in the top three listing, and sometimes I'm at the bottom of the list. However, I had an extremely off game, ending the match with an abhorrant K/D of .11 because I was very heavily outplayed time and again. We have all encountered this. When the match ended, I was the only player rewarded with a legendary. Specifically, Deidris's Retort with Crowd Control and Last Resort. After that match, I got my first piece of hatemail from another player. The message simply read: "Enjoy that gun you didn't earn, scrub." This got me thinking about that glitch that Bungie patched out of the previous Iron Banner. I realized that I have been "That Guy" who was jealous someone inferior to me got a legendary and who put on the blinders when that inferior person was a friend or clan mate. It was ok if it was someone I knew and associated with and was not ok if it wasn't. The reward system has always been a point of ire within the community and people have called for rewards to be based on Skill and Performance over RNG. They aren't wrong, but that way of thinking also assumes everyone is on the same footing in terms of available gear. On XB, I have very little gear and make due with what I have been lucky enough to get, so everything is an upgrade for me currently. That same thing cannot be said for someone who is an XB Day 1 Player, or even any "Hardcore" Destiny Player. The solution to this problem is what that glitch did: Remove Post-Game Rewards visually. Specifically, this can be adapted in the same vein as Prison of Elders has. Start by removing all legendary and exotic rewards from the Post-Game reward table and add them as a returning to orbit reward so that only the player who gets them knows about it. Additionally, like PoE, if your inventory is full, those items become available in your mailbox for your next visit to the tower. This would completely remove the idea that someone who is "inferior" to you is getting better rewards. We've already seen that Bungie can make this happen as PoE is a standing example of it. I'm not saying this would remove post game hate mail because that will still happen. The aim is only to remove the loot as a trigger for it.
