[disclaimer]:
I'm pretty sure i have heard an idea along these line before, but i have no idea where.
There are 2 TL;DR's in this post. One extended (right at bottom) and one short summary a small way above. How Rerolling should work: -Weak perks are buffed and removed from certain weapons. ==> encourages deferent play styles by making many viable perks that complement certain play styles. E.g-
I like outlaw and Explosive rounds on High impact SR's. Trouble is, they contradict. Who's next is basically a weaker Outlaw combined with Spray and Play. This is an example of a few viable perks that can be switched around to fit certain play styles, and perk preferences. Thus promoting perk variation, and play stye variation.
The process 1.Weapons are rerolled at Banshee (same Vendor). 2.Weapons are turned in to Banshee for 2500 Glimmer and 20 Legendary marks and multiples of the same weapon can be turned in for a better chance at ideal rolls. 3.Banshee gives you a placeholder for the weapon you turned in, like Armsday orders. (just a package like an arms day order, but with a symbol for the weapon's source) 4.Every week, entirely random rolls come in at arms day. number of rolls depends on rank, like current orders. ==> Eventually your ideal roll would come. Example images
Order Pop-up E.g

Order Placard E.g
-This means orders cannot be spammed, and the worse your RNG with your rolls, the more chances you can get at your ideal one, by turning in multiples. -We don't all have the same idea of a god roll (except on shotguns), so if anything, this would encourage perfecting unique play styles. E.g:
My dream Primary would be a Badger CCL with Reactive reload, Who's next(?), explosive rounds and Focus Lens LFA5. I haven't seen many others trying for that roll.

What's your dream primary?
This over Y1 Reforging. -Y1 had little weapon and perk variation, and my understanding of the negativity surrounding Y1 reforging was because the narrow meta weapons were rerolled until narrow "god-tier" perks were obtained. -In Y2/3, we have more weapon variation, and more perk variation, so we all have different ideas about the "best" weapon. -Y1 reforging could be spammed. This can't. TL;DR: This is hard to summarise, but ill try my best:
Weapons can be reforged just like arms day orders, turn in a weapon, get the order placard, and wait until your ideal roll comes (usual arms day every Wednesday).
EDIT #1: The reason i'm using a system similar to Armsday, is as, right now, arms day is balanced. You can get your ideal roll, but it takes ages. -Badger CCL is used as a test subject for all images and E.g's. -For all who are wondering about my Who's next perk pick: Look here -The reason that this is changing from Y1 rerolling, is because in Destiny's current economy, and in Bungie's balanced goal this is the most balanced system, shown via current arms day orders. EDIT #2 -E.g: I turn in 5 Image loops. You'd get 15 back at arms day. Thats a really good chance at a god-roll. If you don't get your roll that week, you can wait another week and have 15 more available. -Extended TL;DR:
Ok, so right now, arms day orders a brought at a limited number depending on your rank, and when they come the next Wednesday (armsday), the number of rolls on the weapon you brought maxes out at three (1 rank 1 roll). So for this idea, you can give in a weapon for 2500 glimmer (the price for a current order) and 20 legendary marks (the cost for the ability to be able to turn in multiples) and Banshee gives you an order placard like the current arms day orders. This is untransferable, and prevents total spamming. The next Wednesday, the orders come in and for each placard you get a number of rolls, maxing out at 3 rolls per order placard. So if i turned in 6 Badger CCL's to Banshee, i would have 6 weapons x 3 rolls = a total of 18 rolls to select from next arms day. So yes, it's heavily based on the current system. But the current system is currently very balanced, and so this is a version that allows you to get your roll even quicker by turning in multiples.
EDIT #3 -For those complaining it takes too long, you can still earn the weapons normally. BTW: All rolls are entirely random. I liked how division reforging worked. You could either pick sights, perk 1, 2 or middle perks and once you choose that you can only keep reforging that slot

        • They just need better perks. The idea behind some perks are not as useful as others so they are instantly discarded. Like replenish, exhumed, grave robber to name a few

          • I was going to make a post with this idea. I'm sure it's been said before but thought to put it out there in the case it hasn't. Banshee brings 5 weapons a week for testing. Every time you 100% a weapon you earn a token (think passage coins) this means you can earn 5 a week per character. These token's allow re-rolling (for 4 coins a pop). Re-rolling is handled in a similar way to that of The Division; you can only re-roll perks in 1 column. Once you have rolled a weapon, you can roll it as much as you'd like (4 tokens a roll) but the re-rolls will only shuffle in the column of original choosing. Everything else is locked. Say you got a sweet Longbow but it didn't come with Shortgaze. Go ahead and shuffle the scopes. Say you got a Lord High Fixer with Surrounded, Hammerforged and LiTC. You could choose to shuffle the middle column hoping for rifle barrel to show up. Or maybe you want to shuffle the first perk hoping for Rangfinder or Outlaw. Say you got some sweet gauntlets with a maxed Int/Dis roll but it's a sidearm loader. Go ahead and shuffle that column so it aligns with your hand canon over usage! Re-rolling is fun, but HOW re-rolling is OP. Getting the right drop with bad perks is still a flop (let's agree this is 90% of the time), so this could soften the blow allowing to buff a drop that's not quite perfect, and not going so far so there is still randomisation. What do you guys think?

Iron Banner weapons only. None of them have the potential to be game breaking like final round Efrideet's or Felwinter's back in the day so why the heck not?!

            •
Or just make perks like the Croma type setup, you can find different perks tokens, delete the ones you don't like and replace it with the ones you want, if you have the token for it... Dismantling weapons would give you those perk tokens or random perk tokens... Something along those lines... Feel free to claim ownership of my idea, lol...
• Down voted. Leave it up to RNG to decide who gets good guns. If you don't like it just buy packages from the gunsmith if you want choice. Being able to get the guns you want defeats the purpose of grinding.

              • I just something as simple as being about to take the perks you got on a gun you don't like a placing it on a gun you do. This improves your chance of getting that roll you want without everyone walking round with God rolls within two weeks. This also brings value to everything that drops as even the most unless gun could be holding the god perks you want.

the whole "random" roll system needs a rework. i would sugest a few possible upgrades to the system such as: (1) Limit specific perks to certain weapon types (to create far less useless combo's of perks). (2) Remove useless weapon perks on some weapon types (such as a stability perk on a rocket launcher). (3) The same for armor perks (there are far less useless ones with armor than there are with weapons). (4) Add the ability to re-roll a single perk or any marked perks as many times as you want (for a price such as 2500 glimmer and 5 legendary marks per re-roll and per perk) and you will eventually get a roll you like, not arms day order based as that would make you lose your weapon/armor until armsday or force you to come on the day before armsday just to set for a single chance to re-roll perks (alternately you could have it so you could pick a specific perk from a list for a higher price such as 10k glimmer and 25 legendary marks). (5) Add the ability to lock each perk so they can't be re-rolled. (6) Add the ability to add any element (either singular or multiple/switchable elements for a higher price) to any weapon including primary weapons (you can have a specific element on whichever weapon you want to use by re-rolling the element class kinetic weapons would keep the kenetic base but add element damage to shields only).

                      • Rerolling wouldn't be necessary if: A) Garbage perks were removed. Nobody ever really wants something with surrounded and oiled frame as is. But rework the description to apply to minions of darkness and greatly increase the buff, and suddenly the perk is viable. B) The major items at the major vendors weren't stagnant for 6+ months at a time. The vendors stock needs to reroll weekly. C) The hidden stats amongst weapons of the same archetype weren't completely random. Eg the high impact gunsmith sniper has less than half of the aim assist as a 1KYS. Instead, move towards a Borderlands inspired situation where different weapons of the same archetype have a predisposition to certain things, eg vanguard weapons have a high chance of rolling perks that do enhanced things against minions of the darkness. Maybe FWC weapons have a high chance of rolling RNG based perks (luck in the chamber) while NM weapons are more likely to have extended mags. Ect ect

                      • I don't care how they do it, I just want some form of control over the rolls I get on my weapons. I want to make my own build, not cross fingers just to be let down and settle for whatever shotty Rng gives me.

                      • I don't think there's any real way to introduce re roll back again. It would just lead to issues. But there's an option for in general just having good perks, or at least perks that will make a difference.

                      • I think re-roing should work as such. You must bring a weapon of the same class to Banshee. You may take one eligible perk from that gun, and then place it on the gun you are re-rolling, the other gun will be consumed in the process. This way, you are at least working for the gun perks you want. The old way was too easy imo, this at least adds some challenge to it, reducing the grind slightly.

                        • Interesting theory, but if I turn in 5 imago loops, how does the game know what my ideal roll is? Do I select that I want outlaw, hammer forged, and firefly? Or does it just go on what bungie would say the optimum roll is?

                          • Lol why is this even an argument ? Bring back reforging and let people spam the f#%$ out of it is lf they want ... literally the only argument against this is people with God roll weapons that want to maintain there advantage over everyone with out it . There are a bunch of guns that are garbage unless they have certain perks (spare change .25) for example. You want balance without the nerfs? Let people re roll a weapon until they get the perks that suit their playstyle end of conversation.

ANY form of reforge is better than no reforge. I hate how it is now: no reforge, a lot of crap perks and hardly any legendary drops. So upvote all the way.
