Bungie now calls the base game "free trial"
Most have called it that since launch. I guess they were right.

It was a mistake posted in some online marketplaces. In the updated article, there is no mention of the base game being a "free trial." Instead, while you can download the base game for free, you will only have access to the Destiny Trial Mode, which has no option for progression through vanilla.
