How do they keep finding us?!
So in physics today, I learned about the modern model for our solar system. It's know as the Helical Model, and basically it states that our Sun is traveling in space at 70,000 km/h. And while it's doing that, anything that gets caught it its gravitational wake receives an orbit. So, while the planets orbit Sol, they are traveling at 70,000 km/h with it. This creates a vortex type orbit, watch:

(I also believe the reason our sun is moving is because it is caught in the gravitational wake of an even larger object at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy)
Basically, our Solar System does not have a set position, we are always moving. So, how was Oryx able to catch up to us? How did the Traveler find us? The darkness found us because it was hunting the traveler, but how do they move so fast?! How do they keep finding us?! Are they from the Milky Way too? Or another Galaxy (if they're from another galaxy that'd be impressive).

Edit: Along with ✨[i]Space Magic[/i]✨ I realize that if we can pinpoint and land on moving objects with basic algebra and our modern technology, hyper advanced aliens that can time travel or rip holes in the universe would be able to as well. ✨[i]Space Magic[/i]✨ + Algebra = Being able to do anything
Although, I do still wonder if some of these races are even from the same Galaxy as us. Clearly the Fallen were, and it's likely the Cabal too. But, our more trippy enemies like the Hive and the Vex who can travel anywhere in an instant may very well be from outside the Milky Way. Oryx's sister, Savathûn, made it seem as if exploring the entire universe was possible. It would make these races even more impressive.
Alpha Centauri A is the closest solar system to us, and even then it's about 4.37 light years away, or about...
(1 light year = 9.461 • 10^12km)
So
(9.461 • 10^12)km / (1)ly = (X)km / (4.37)ly
(9.461 • 10^12)(4.37) = X

41,344,570,000,000km = X
(4.134457 • 10^13 = X)
DAAAAAYYYYYUUUUUM!! The nearest SOLAR SYSTEM is that far away! It's cool enough that our jumpships can travel to Saturn from Earth! But not even Golden Age Tech could reach that far!
Now back to what I was thinking:
If the nearest Star is that far, then the nearest GALAXY is even farther!!! Yet, the Hive and Vex can make that trip in a matter of milliseconds (if they are in fact from outside the Milky Way)!

2 RepliesIt doesn't require space magic. You were in physics, so you should know. NASA landed a probe on comet that was rotating in three axis while moving along at about 135,000km/hr a few years ago. If the nerds....I mean scientist, at NASA can do it now, don't need science fiction to do it in Destiny. Seriously amazing how those scientist can do that stuff

As far as Oryx finding us, we're talking about a guy who flies around the cosmos in a ship that is a paradox to the fabric of reality, decimating entire intergalactic civilizations, ripping beings from our plane existence to imbue them with power/strip them if weakness and sending them back utterly bent to his will. Pretty sure he wouldn't have much of a problem finding us. In all actuality tho, he probably was drawn to us by the massive loss of power/tribute we created when we killed Crota.

Traveler just happened to see us. Darkness found us cuz of the Traveler. Oryx was pissed that his son didn't collect the sacred loot and went to do it himself.

3 RepliesThe Traveler? Pure chance. The sun is orbiting a supermassive black hole. The Darkness? It doesn't apply to future physics that we discovered with space magic, of course it found and caught up to us. Oryx? He probably created a wormhole or some shit. The fallen? They've probably actually been following us and the Traveler at hyperspeed for centuries and found us a few hundred years before we woke up. The Cabal? They were probably from a neighboring system. The Vex? Ehhhh... Space Magic. Time travel.

1 ReplyYou're questioning the speed at which they'd have to travel in order to catch up to our system, but not questioning our ability to travel from Earth to the rings of Saturn in a few moments? If (in the same 'verse) we can leap large distances in moments, why wouldn't other advanced civilizations be able to? Or move faster even? Also, if you know the speed and direction that an object in space is traveling, you can calculate where it will be in X amount of minutes/days/years/etc. All you need then to do then is point your spacecraft and accelerate.

Because Destiny isn't just Sci-fi, it's Sci-fantasy. The laws of existence aren't ruled simply by physics, but also by the forces of Light and Dark. These forces are almost indistinguishable from Magic. If that answer doesn't make you happy, well, Oryx isn't called the First Navigator for nothing, the Vex were already here, the Cabal followed the Vex, and the Fallen followed the Traveler. The Traveler ended up here by chance.

Oryx isn't called the first navigator for nothing. That and he may very well have been in out galaxy to begin with.

The Hive can cut holes in the universe to travel to different areas very quickly. You can see hive tomb ships do this.

9 RepliesThe hive as we know them have existed for at minimum 500million years [spoiler]confirmed by eris[/spoiler] And they have the ability to -blam!- with space/time on a very large scale due to the ontologic nature of the destiny universe. When crota died and asked daddy to spank us for him. His dad most likely found and tracked us using crotas ascendant realm. As all of the realms are connected, oryx could have followed thus connection and that led him straight to our solar system. _____________________ The vex have a habit of skrewing with time so the moment thet found our solar system in any possible point in time past-present-future, they would then know where we are and could just time travel to us. _____________________ The cabal are an expanding military empire, it is quite possible that they were able to detect past human transmitions from say the golden age and followed those back to here. They could have also detected the travelers energy signature(it emits LIGHT) and followed that thinking they could use it. The hive actualy found us using this same method and crota was sent on a quest in Oryx' place to kill the traveler. _____________________ We know that the fallen were around during the golden age but mostly stayed out on the far edges of our system and didnt begin to properly show up till after the collapse. We also know that the traveler visited the fallen a long time ago and after it fled from the darkness the fallen also experienced their own collapse. Some of them managed to escape and became the roaming fallen. The house of stone found the traveler and began to follow it to earth but they ran into oryx fleet and were wiped out, but not before they could send out a message to all the other houses saying where the traveler was headed.
