Honestly, elemental system similar to chroma as a rare perk on all legendary primaries. Spend 50 legendary marks to deactivate and change the element type, with repeat types showing up prohibited and Kinetic as one of the types. All of the elemental nodes have to be activated with an item, which can be gotten in any Y2 / 3 raid chest, as a crucible reward (rare), Prison of Elders package (uncommon), sterling treasure (ultra rare) or heroic strikes (rare). Also add in an elemental item kit, with 1 of each, as a nightfall reward (uncommon).
Not all legendaries will spawn with it, and all of them have a chance of having it. Increased chance for faction packages, perhaps, and increase the chance of drop with the difficulty of activity (strikes get a little boost, heroics get a better one, nightfall gets a decent boost, raid and HM raid have a noticeable chance, and IB / ToO have a decent chance as well).

Yes, this, with the exception of not all legendaries having a chance to spawn with it. Please dont make the grind anymore gruesome than it needs to be. People work long and hard for god rolls, do you know how much it would suck to get the legendary you have been hunting with the perks you have been hunting, only to find out it couldnt become an elemental, so you need to grind even more? That would blow.
-
Technically, wouldn't we enter a new meta of god rolls, where having elemental potential would be part of it? I personally think that having only a chance keeps them special and makes them more valuable to have. If everything has it, it's just another perk, doing another thing, like every other perk, doing every other thing. It's kind of like having a chance at a non-exotic exotic, and I will put in the work to get what I want either way. Either that, or they could go for my weapons customizing system, and avoid the whole issue. Or have an extremely long, difficult, solo only raid-type encounter to modify a gun into an elemental primary enabled weapon. The catch? Fail to complete the activity in the time limit (whatever that may end up being) and you lose the gun. without risk, why should I want a reward, after all?
-
I dont believe destiny needs more grind. I dont think we need to take the currently slim chance of getting what you want, and make it even slimmer. And the raid only activity wouldnt necessarily be a good idea too, because one, pvp players who want to make their fancy guns fancier might not be skilled enough to do it (not saying pvp players arent skilled, just the pvp and pve are two quite different things) Also, destiny has a slew of bugs, so what if you start it up and get badgered or something. That could count as a loss, and boom, there goes your gun And what if that last bit happens on a god roll? Boom, not only did you lose a gun most likely thanks to bungies servers, you lost one you spent countless hours on
-
Either way, it's a loot based game so there will always be a grind for something. Maybe elemental primaries, maybe the new exotic whatever, who knows what. I actually like chasing guns and the like, so it would be more motivation for me to play certain activities. The raid concept was more of a you get a week thing. I think most people can manage one solo hard of something in a week. You can always give up and take back your gun, too. Mainly, I just don't believe that we should be handing out new shiny toys for simply showing up. I want a reason to put in effort, and I want to be rewarded for it. It's kind of like how the vendor hawksaw is a great fun, and no one cares about it because anyone can have it... Sort of takes the magic out if it.
-
If it was some kinda consumable, like a chroma, that was only obtained at the end of high tier activities (ie nightfall, raid, banner, trials, etc) then it wouldnt be just handed out you would have to earn it.
-
Maybe that is true, I'm not certain. I personally fall into the camps of if you want it, work really hard for it and why do I need an elemental primary when I use a high-impact kinetic, and it never seems to fail me? I don't see an overwhelming need for them in general, exploiting the burn factor is just a bonus, really. I solo nightfalls from time to time just for a decent challenge, and I never feel the need to use Zhalo on arc burn days; if anything, the lower accuracy and DPS seem to inhibit me. Give me my hand cannon any day. Would it be fun to have my LHFer come in an arc flavor for those days? Sure, but then where's the challenge in doing it at all, it's just a one and done. It's not exactly like there are any hard PVE encounters short of KF end fights, and they're only hard because you need a team to work together on them.

Heres the thing with the chroma idea. If you wanted a challenge, or you simply didnt want elemental primaries, then just dont use the chroma. It lets those of us who like elemental primaries have it, and those that dont like it not. You dont HAVE to have an elemental primary. Just get a kinetic one and leave it there. With the chroma consumable idea, everyone wins. Those who want a burn get it, those that dont dont have to use it, and bungie gets that diversity that they apparently care so much for, cause all primaries will have the ability to have a burn, so all of them can be utilized. Hive wizard shields got you down? Boom, solar nirwins mercy. But wait, whats inz the next room? Is that a taken centurion. Boom whip out that arc smite of merain. Oh shit, taken wizards. BOOOOOM!!! Void hawksaw. Orrr Hive wizard? LHF. Taken Centurion? LHF. Taken wizard? LHF. Whatever works for you man. Whatever floats yah yacht. As for wheres the challenge, that can be resolved by changing up how shields work and whatnot. Like that matchup or whatever modifier where anything that isnt the right element does next to nothing on the shields. Also, as for wheres the challenge, once again, you dont HAVE to make your guns elemental. Its a choice. You like beating on wizard shields with your kinetic LHF, i like shredding through them. Personal preference.

Edited by Technohydra: 8/9/2016 6:56:50 PMYou know what, I'll propose an alternate: Consumable, time decaying primary auras. Kinda the same thing, except you use it like a booster. It lasts 30 minutes and then goes away. You have to continue to collect them, and make good decisions about when to use them (similar to how boosters work), but they aren't out there as a permanent issue for the encounter teams to have to plan everything around. As an added bonus, I'll even throw in a cool elemental effect on the surface of the gun. And added to that, they affect any primary you equip in that time period, not just one.
-
That idea has been considered on other posts as well. A time consumable honestly isnt a bad idea either, but that doesnt fix the diversity issue at all. It just means that during the raid or something ill just use my smite of merain althroughout, and just keep switching elemental auras.
-
I can see that as an issue. My main point to you is that technically allowing a fixed element on a primary triples your grind time: you have to get the roll you like, or close to it 3 times. Getting elemental chroma-slots is good, but the cost should be enough that they don't simply get changed all the time. You could do that by requiring an armsday period to retool the gun, make it cost a good number of marks, or put a cooldown timer on the slot itself. Or you can limit the source of the consumable to make it less possible that one gun will be the catch-all. The primary issue is that the introduction of elements that can always be swapped makes any and all shielded PVE encounters be basically trivial. whereas you can simply choose not to use them, that's not a good solution from a design standpoint, and it wrecks havoc on the encounter teams options to make challenge encounters. I personally don't care all that much if they come back or not, but I have a feeling that may be the major factor at play here (reference Icebreaker for a similar issue).
-
Oh, dont get me wrong, there should be a price to pay to swap elements, if there is even the ability to swap. I mean swapping chroma isnt free, and thats just a decor thing. This would be a game mechanic thing. I wouldnt mind a huge fine to pay to reallocate an element to a weapon, nor would i mind simply being stuck with the element i choose until i get a new one. Like i get a god roll gun and make it void. I would be perfectly fine with it being permanently stuck at void, or i have to pay like 50-100 legendary marks to clear the element and reselect a new one. Just with those hefty restrictions, allow us to choose the element it gets. Or make the fine smaller, like 10-25 legendary marks, but the allocated element be randomized, with an option for kinetic to be selected.
-
It could be interesting. That said, I know one of the reasons they did it was to make the elements on secondary and heavy weapons matter more in your loadout, so I don't know how much of that you'd be fighting to get the change put in. I don't discount the possible fun or utility of the change, but damn do they have their ideas too, lol. Maybe they're even right, but I see a fight either way. then again, for all we know they already have plans for them in ROi, who knows.
-
Hopefully they bring them back in some form in RoI Also, even if they (bungie) feel one way, they should be listening to their players. The players are the ones paying for the game. They (bungie) are making their boat loads of money off of us, right? I thought the saying was "the customer is always right" I know there are exceptions, otherwise every gun would be nerfed to oblivion, but still, a lot of people are asking for elementaries to be back, so come on. Tons of solutions have been brought up that seem pretty great and balanced, so pick one bungie. ...if this game wasnt essentially a monopoly, then they would be so screwed. Like if CoD kept jerking their player base around, how long do you think it would take before there was a sudden downfall in CoD players, and a huge spike in Battlefield players? But sadly, there isnt really any game quite like Destiny out there to cause some form of competition, meaning Bungie can do next to anything they want, cause there isnt really a similar alternative.
I thought the saying was "the customer is always right"
Having worked as a chef, then a retail manager, and now a game balance designer (don't ask), I can tell you that that saying is what service people tell you is right. What we really generally say after being confronted with that is more the customer always thinks they are right on good days, the customer is always an asshole when things have gone more south. It's not a fair statement, no matter which one you choose, really. Either you get everything you want, no mater the cost to me or if it's a long-term good thing, or you only get what I give you, no matter if it's even remotely what you want. On the one hand, I like the idea of options and customization, and just generally feeling like we have a part in shaping the game. On the other hand, I understand that the balance and encounter teams have a job to do, and the elemental primaries might be a big stumbling block for a reason that we can't see. Granted, it would be nice to be told what that reason was so we could stop barking up the wrong tree, but studios are notoriously close-mouthed about reasons like that for things they do. Generally speaking, I'd like it to be a more open discussion than it is now. Bungie wants one thing, we want another (so to speak), and we have to strain for the middle of that distance to get anywhere.

Yeah, they need to work on their communication a bit more.
