Firefly Can Still Crash Destiny - 335 Days and Counting
Destiny version 2.0 was released on September 8th, 2015. That was 335 days ago. Shortly after the 2.0 update, multiple players on all platforms started reporting their game clients crashing due to explosions from the firefly perk.
Bungie acknowledged the issue and initially reported that they had resolved the issue in update 2.0.1 on October 13th, 2015.

While this update did seem to help lower the frequency of such crashes, it did not resolve the issue permanently. In response to reports that firefly could still crash Destiny after update 2.0.1, Bungie posted a help article ackowledging the issue, but offering no ETA on a fix.

I understand this issue may be highly technical and complicated, but it has been an issue that has been affecting Destiny since September of last year, 11 months ago. I understand that some things deserve higher priority, but this bug should have been permanently fixed long ago, because when it happens, it crashes the game. I am scared that this bug will never be fixed, and I will always be worried it may happen whenever I am using a weapon with the firefly perk.
I really hope Bungie can figure out a permanent fix to prevent this issue from happening.

Yea i cant use my god roll treads upon stars because it crashes my game. But my other primaries dont do that.

Fortunately this has not happened to me (and hopefully it never does), but I really do hope something is done about this soon. I've had this happened to many friends and it's really annoying having to wait while they reboot their game.

5 Repliesdunno about you guys, but it seems to me Y2 Firefly is weaker too (save for rare instances where it magically does like x10 damage for some reason). My Uffern with often can't kill an Acolyte or a Vandel, while Fatebringer seems to have no trouble doing it with regularity.

I have played since day one, and I have only ever encountered this once. It was a very laggy match. This problem occurs so very rarely that there really isn't any way to test what's causing it.

2 RepliesDon't fix it please. Its the most fun I've had in destiny ,watching my friends PS4 crash. Making enemies crash in trials ,but it rarely happens in PvP (only done it once :/ in zone control )

I have a FWC handcannon (Vanity) with firefly, reinforced barrel, and litc, and I love it, but every now and again it freezes the game on a firefly proc. Pretty annoying, since It'd really suck to have that happen mid raid, or mid ToO or CoE run... Wish this was fixed already... Also, I'm on XBox One. So it's not a legacy console issue...

Edited by Xzabath: 8/8/2016 4:53:35 PMYes, I crashed myself a few days ago, with the firefly. I was on a head killing spree in the court of oryx, with my uffern and it does have luck in the chamber. It might have been the fwc hc. I also have an xbox1 elite.

Had it happen to me earlier this year, treads upon stars with firefly. When proced, it would do exactly like the Op's video. Because it kept happening (with just that gun for me) I had to just infuse it into something else. But I was (Still am) On ps4.

1 ReplyI wonder if it isn't a system hardware issue. I use a SSD drive in my Xbox and prior to installing it, I had this same problem. Since then, I don't see frame rate loss or freeze due to fire fly.

1 ReplyIt probably isn't a priority. Priorities on bug fixes are made by looking at the answers to the following questions. How many players does it affect? How many times does it happen? Are there workarounds and what are they? What's the effort to fix it? What are the possible side effects of the fix? For the first two questions, It doesn't happen often, at least to me and from what I've seen. And from some posts, it's limited by console. For the workaround question, firefly can be turned off. I can't answer the last two questions but from the answers to the first three, it wouldn't be a priority.

I had it happen to me a few times during the Omnigul Nightfall recently, it mostly occurred when I killed a Thrall with my Hung Jury, the Firefly proc'd killing thralls around it, and you know the little explosion thingy Thralls make when they die? That happened about 10 times in quick succession, and it froze almost everytime. I'm on the Xbone.
