What i learned from Bungie dropping last gen
So Bungie is dropping last gen. Before i go on any further, letting you know that i play Destiny on PS3.
I'm really disappointed that i won't be able to finish the game. I had fun while it lasted. I was pumped for this game. I pre ordered it almost a year in advance. I had a blast. I enjoyed doing the raids, POE, nighfalls ect. In year one.
Then year 2 came along. I saw the Taken King trailer and i was hyped. When TTK came out, i wasn't able to buy it because i had gameshared The Dark Below from my friend. (He in turn gameshared House of wolves from me). Anyway i spent an extra 60 bucks on legendary edition because apparently you needed to have purchased both DLC,s on the same account to buy TTK by itself. I pretty much had to buy the game twice.
In total i ended up spending about $140 on this game.
What pisses me off is THERE WAS NO WARNING that i wouldn't be able to finish the game on last gen. I was under the impression that PS3 would be dropped for Destiny two. That seemed reasonable at the time.
Honestly, i wish Destiny wasn't released on last gen. A lot of people are upset because they spent all that money on DLC thinking they would be able to finish the game. Bungie knew they were having problems with development. They should've just rekeased the game on next gen only. It would've saved them time and resources and it would've saved us last gen players some money.
Had i known this i would've never bought this game on last gen. I could've saved that $140 and put it towards a PS4 but my dumbass went ahead and spent all that money. Oh well mistakes were made.
I feel sort of cheated. Especially since Bungie is taking away Trials, nightfall, and iron banner from us.
Anyway i guess what I'm saying is that we last gen players are upset that Bungie sold us an unfinished game that we hoped we would be able to finish by purchasing DLC. We feel cheated in a sense.
What I've learned from this is that patience is a virtue. If i had waited and saved up for a PS4 from the start instead of buying this game on last gen, i would've ultimately saved money.

PS3 and xb1 have been holding back destiny since it was launched... You should upgrade to a ps4.

3 RepliesSorry man, but they shouldn't have even supported last-gen to begin with. Being as they have been quite vocal about the limitations that have been due to supporting last-gen I believe Activision was who made it a reality in the first place.

A: PlayStation 3 came out in 2006, and Xbox in 2005, both of which were designed way before that. You might as well be mad because you can't play destiny on sega dreamcast.

During this post I will be focused on Sony Playstation hardware which is the platform I use. Old generation consoles like the Playstation 3 can run custom firmware that allows a lot of funny things, things like: 1) God mode, no damage taken; 2) Unlimited ammunition; 3) Unlimited supers; 4) 1 shot kills (including raid bosses); 5) Playing any activity without having a PSN subscription; 6) Use ripped and modified iso images and DLC's from Destiny; 7) Manipulation of every single aspect on the game; I live in Europe, I own 2 Playstation 3 (unmodded). If I want to purchase a second Playstation 4 some shops (like Media Markt) have campaigns that they cut 100€'s from the original price of the PS4 if you give in your old Playstation 3. This leaves PS4 in prices around 200€'s. That's less than half of the minimal wage of my country. That's less than a normal LED TV screen and that's 4 times the yearly subscription of PSN, 2.3 times the price of Destiny. I'm not claiming everyone is a cheater on old gen, but the sad truth is that many people actually want the old gen because they can play any content online without spending a single cent, ripping off intellectual property from the game studios, decreasing their revenue that can be put to good usage to improve infra-structure and development of new contents, etc. Worst, they can be used to trash completly the fun and game experience of other players in activities like trials. So honestly, [b]Bungie did a good thing by stopping this spreading cancer on this game[/b]. Now, I understand that there can be some skeptics... some people who will deliberally try to hide what I just unveilled, and for sure there will be far more people that will open their eyes now after seeing what comes after this sentence. 2 RepliesTo start off I'm an xbone player. Now Bungie's excuse for not dropping RoI on last gen consoles was because they said they would have to take things away to give last gen RoI. Which would be fine except they are taking stuff away anyways (trials, iron banner, and nightfalls). They are stealing content that last gen players paid for. If I pull up the trailer for house of wolves you can see they advertise trials. Nowhere in the trailer does it say this will be taken away in a year and a half for last gen players. Honestly, I hope bungie gets sued. It would serve them right for always lying and stealing.

I just cancelled my RoI pre-order when I saw the leaked gameplay in No Man's Sky. I changed my pre to NMS and never looked back. Will i play RoI? Sure, probably when it goes on sale. NMS will be taking my time up. 10 Days :) YANA !!!

Bungie has no clue on how it actually effect gamers getting info at last min or no info at all. Just do it and let them deal with it. This is exactly how Bungie has treated their fan base for the last two years. At this point in the game Cozmo doesn't really need to be on this forum either. He serves no purpose other then his appearance. Bungie might as well add a answering service at this point because chatting with Cozmo is a one way conversation.. Press 1 if you want to hear.... The game just wasn't living up to what it could be with last gen. Destiny will have limitations taken away by dropping last gen. I know it sucks because I had to upgrade to xbone, but honestly , the new consoles have been out for quite some time now and just like phones and everything else, the old stuff has to slowly be discontinued.

Look at it this way. According to wastedondestiny.com you've racked up 1943 hours, not including deleted characters. Divide that by the $140 you spent and you get almost 14 hours of gameplay per dollar spent. That's a lot of value. I feel slightly jaded, too, but they made the right decision in forcing an upgrade, and even if people like you and I didn't bother to do so we've still got more value out of this game than probably any other game, or even combinations of games, we've ever played.

6 Replies>finish What's there to finish? You could "finish" Destiny at any point after beating the campaign, depending on your outlook. They're not even pulling a TTK and cutting you off. Literally the only change is you not being able to pay for new shit. That's it.

Both Console Developers stated that Legacy consoles were going to be turned off after a few years. It's too bad you didn't listen.

I'm pissed i can't play Destiny on my Atari, and even more upset it wasn't available for Coleco-Vision. How dare they not make it compatible with last Gen forever and ever!! That's it I quit I'm taking my controller and going home!

I can understand that. However the old gen significantly holds back the games devolvement. Had destiny been next gen only I'm sure from the start it would have been better. I am excited for the change.

i play on 360 and i do agree that last gen should have either never been part of destiny i.e. destiny should have been current gen only from the get go or they should have dropped last gen for destiny 2, i don't see the point in dropping last gen halfway through because unless they release drastic software updates and changes, then dropping last gen would have made zero difference, because graphics already changed with each generation as did processing speed, the only things that didn't change with each gen was particle effects and high demand mechanics (such as ship destroying which is widely believed to have not been implemented due to last gen systems being unable to process it) so i am interested to see if they actually make anything of losing last gen or if they just did it to cheer up the people that have been calling for it since destiny came out

I know it stinks. Eventually you have to upgrade. If you divide the dollars spent by the hours paid, I am sure you will find you got your money's worth. GameStop, if there's one near you, has a layaway program (or at least the did) where you can take some time to pay off your purchase. And no, I don't work for GameStop.

You were given warning because rise of iron was never supposed to exist. Destiny 2 was supposed to be released this fall which was going to be on current gen only. The only reason RoI is happening is because D2 was pushed back to next year. I suggest you upgrade away from your decade old tech as the advancements are amazing. I play both my sports games on ps4 and my shooters/rpgs in xb1

They gave full warning that people would have to upgrade [i]3 months in advance[/i]. That's ample warning. Secondly, the only reason it's happening in RoI and not Destiny 2 is because Destiny 2's schedule got pushed back. Had it not, you'd be getting [i]the exact same[/i] 3 months notice and it would still happen this September no matter what. It has been well known for years now that Destiny would be limited on current gen consoles within only a matter of years. Now here we are, about to begin the 3rd year of this game and that's exactly what is happening, as expected. There was never any reasonable expectation or implication that the whole story would go a full 10+ years on legacy consoles, which by now are already 10 years old and about to be [i]2[/i] generations behind technologically.
