Bounties, Public Events, and other things left behind in Y1

I know many of you probably don't remember having to run bounties to upgrade weapons, or farm public events to try to get extra shards/energy to unlock nodes on your legendary gear. And even if you do, I doubt any of you remember them fondly. But right now, bounties, public events, and patrols are really entirely irrelevant in the game right now. Before, in Y1, they were the primary way of obtaining experience quickly for weapons and armor. Now, there's really no reason to bother doing them. Sure, you can pick up a ton of bounties, complete them while you are pursuing your strikes, nightfalls, some you can even complete in the raid! And your reward for doing so? Vanguard/Faction rep, possibly an upgrade package for strange coins, motes of light, and a chance for a legendary item/ship/shader, etc, All capped at 330 light. What does this mean? It means that once you hit 330 light, there is no need to do bounties anymore - unless you are HOT for some of those Y1 items they made Y2 versions of. I, myself, am not, since I refuse to try to grind for items that I already have in my vault (they're just stuck in Y1). Same thing for public events. They were useless pretty much after TDB launched and you needed radiant materials to upgrade rather than ascendant materials (or I could have this reversed). Either way, you get my point. Literally NO reason to do them. I remember being back in Y1 and actually tracking the public events so I could get a few extra shards a day when I wasn't able to go on raids. Sure, farming events wasn't as exciting as a raid or nightfall, but it was a relaxing activity to do once you had completed everything else, and it still helped you to progress. Where am I going with this? Well I believe these two areas of the game need a complete revamping. Yes, Raids, nightfalls, and heroic strikes are going to be the ENDGAME PVE content, but having other casual, laid-back content that will help you progress is also necessary IMO. It gives you something you can do by yourself or with other players while you are waiting for your raid team to get on. It gave you a reason to go into patrol. And I may be in the minority here, but getting 2 other people together in a patrol to run bounties was kind of fun because it gave you a reason to use your sparrow - hop on, drive around the map until you find the bounties you want to do, and then go do them. Mindless, sure. But it was the easy EXP you needed to unlock weapon nodes. I'm not asking for bounties and public events to start granting end-game rewards, but it would sure be nice if we had an actual reason to do them. I don't even bother with bounties because my characters are LL 335. I don't even bother with public events because I'm rarely in patrol, and when I am, there is literally no reward for doing them. Some changes I might propose to this, whether in this version of Destiny or the next are: 1. Bounties which trigger different parts of the patrol to open up for exploration purposes for limited times; 2. This will be unpopular but - go back to having bounties be the main way to obtain exp for gear (but increase the exp you get x3 or make armor telemetries and existing weapon telemetries more effective). 3. Bounty/Patrol bosses. There should be at least 15-20 different patrol bosses that can spawn in in random times/events just out of the blue. Have them be on an RNG timer rather than a set timer. 4. But don't make bounties contingent on killing RNG spawned bosses. I can foresee that being frustrating. Quests? that is a little more iffy. 5. Add currency rewards for bounties, and reduce currency drops from other sources. This would make bounties the main way of obtaining currency. Some may complain, but doing 6 bounties sounds like a lot more fun than running X number of strikes to obtain glimmer. Btw, this could cross over to crucible bounties as well to encourage crucible play. Public events: 1. Add in scaling events. Difficulty of public events should scale based on the light level of people present at the time the event spawns. This should ensure that public events are challenging encounters for the most part; 2. Add in scaling rewards based on difficulty of the encounter. Low end rewards can range from planetary upgrade materials, motes of light, etc. High end rewards can be x5-20 heavy ammo synth, x1-5 exotic shards (assuming the exotic shards still function as they currently do), strange coins, 3 of coins, big glimmer bonus, public event exclusive ships, shaders, class items, emblems, etc. 3. Make a larger variety of public events, and make them spawn in all areas. Currently, only certain kinds of events can spawn in certain areas. While I know geography can sometimes be a limiting factor, any public event really should be able to spawn on any portion of the map. 4. How about a reason to use your ship in combat? Fallen ketch flies in, hovers over your area, drops tons of drop ships. Your job? use your ship, fight through the ketch defenses, board the Ketch, and eliminate the captain. Could almost be like a strike that triggers in the middle of patrol at random times - and again, with scaling rewards above! 5. Bungie - there has not been ONE SINGLE sparrow run in this game. This, after you made such awesome Warthog runs in Halo. It would be a fun/interesting idea to spawn a guardian Sparrow race to see who can circle the whole map the fastest. Scaling rewards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes. And it would make the Raid Sparrows with afterburners useful.... These are just some suggestions to make bounties, public events, and patrols interesting again. Sure, we all hate it when an asshat Random is trying to kill the same enemy you are, but back in Y1, you used to encounter 100's of people in patrol. Now, I can have a patrol all to myself! This is a shared-world shooter right? There doesn't seem to be much world-sharing going on when we're all in our own raids and strikes, etc. Give us a reason to get back in patrol when we are not busy raiding or doing the other endgame activities!
