Strength of the Pack S2 Ch. 4 pt. 1: The Redjack's Challenge

"Good morning, Rooks! Some of you know me, the others, probably not. I am Jesse Cantrell, former Redjack; and if you don't know what that is, well, shame on you. Now, I am a representative of the Crucible! And I have been hired to train each and every one of you as if Shaxx was overlooking this himself! And I don't plan to slip up!" The hunter walked around the stage waving his hands around. He monologued about something, but I was more focused on the unusual sigil on his chest. It was blue with lightning like a Bladedancer, but a disc sat between the lightning bolts. "Colt, do you recognize the emblem?" I whispered. "I don't..." Colt was still ticked off about last night, and refused to leave my helmet. "Here is the challenge, Rooks: Capture the flag! I will be in the jungles amongst you, if you can catch and kill me, the flag is yours... Keep in mind, this is still a Rumble pit, here," Jesse stopped back in the center of the stage, "Farewell to you... And may the best hunter win," He gave a bow and turned invisible. The hunters split up and went back to their hideouts. Some hunters followed their "secretly" formed fireteams, and even though Echo Squad did to, I wandered on my own path. I found a tall tree and began parkouring my way up. I found a sturdy branch and sat down, letting the wind blow through my messy hair. Colt popped up and looked around, then turned toward me, "Shouldn't you be getting back to your team?!" "What happened last night?" I asked as I propped my arms behind my head. Colt's eye gazed passed me into a distant past. He looked around, never looking back at me. I sat up and propped one leg on the branch, "Colt, I'm sorry. This is all my fault... I didn't realize you and Monica had such a history. I would like to help, I'm trying, ok. But, this isn't going anywhere..." "Stop! There is nothing that you, or Kourtney, could do, save from wiping our memory, that could remove that h*** of a past! Now, stop being so d***ed worried about me, and keep your head in line!!" Colt snapped as blood red stripes around him began to glow. My helmet materialized around my head and I pulled up my cloak, "Enjoy your breather..." I said as I jumped down. "What?" Colt tried to connect with my helmet, but was unable, "Alan! Let me in!" "See ya in a bit, Colt..." "Alan!!" The noon Sun loomed dead above head. I wandered through the trees, when all of the sudden an arc grapple wrapped around my foot, "Ohh! S***!!" I was hoisted me up, staring at an upside-down hunter... The Redjack. "How unfortunate. You fell into my trap," Jesse raised his auto rifle and pulled the trigger. As my only defense, I raised my left arm up and deployed a personal, metallic shield from the platings. I did a curl up and cut the wire. I dropped down, landing on all four. I stood up and looked around. Without Colt in close proximity, staying alive was my main priority. The black and white hunter dropped down and stared me down. I raised Ace and before I could pull the trigger, he whipped the grapple and yanked it away. He caught it aimed the barrel at me, once again, my defense was my shield plating arm. Jesse, being the good sport, emptied the remaining rounds onto the ground and passed Ace back to me, "I can see guns are useless against you and your... attachment". "What are you saying? Abilities only?" I said, still holding my dented arm up. "Your funeral". "Try me," I gave a cocky smile behind my mask. "So, be it," Jesse placed his auto rifle on his back. After what felt like ages of staring at each other, Jesse spoke, "Your move, son". I cracked my neck, pulled out a knife, and charged him. Jesse pulled out his knife and swung, but I slid under his freshly cleaned blade. I elbowed his ribs as I slid past. I ran and Blinked over him, but as I turned around, his knife shattered my helmet, cutting beside my right eye. I cringed in pain as I jumped back and held my hand to my face. "Blinking doesn't give much of an advantage anymore," He said with a laugh. Jesse whipped the grapple, clamping onto my chest and pulled me to the ground before him. I rolled over to see his knife coming for my visor again! I threw up my arm, holding his in place. The edge of the blade just centimeters from contact. Jesse pressed all of his weight on that knife, but my bionic arm held him up. I could hear the motors in my arm going into overdrive to keep this going. With my free arm, I pulled out my knife and held the handle to my chest. I whipped my arm away, causing Jesse's knife to hit the dirt beside my neck, and him fall onto my knife, "F***!!" He rolled off and got on one knee. I got up and watched him as he looked at the knife stuck in his gut. He refused to pull it out, which would have caused the hook on it to tear out more flesh, "Good one," He said as he looked up. Blood began to make a pool below him. My knife safely dematerialized, letting Jesse patch up the wound as best he could. I ran back a little ways, then slung out Arc Blade. At the same time, Jesse summoned lightning, causing arc shurikens to form in his hands. I lowered my guard as I looked in horror, "Uh, oh..." "As I said: 'Your funeral'," Jesse threw a star, slicing a hole of splayed wires in my arm, then another into my other arm, then one into my shoulder. The several impacts, and sheer pain threw me to the ground. Jesse jumped onto me, with three shurikens in his hand... He was going to slit my throat in one slice! "Wait! Wait! Wait!... I don't have my ghost with me! Save the execution for later!" Jesse held the stars at my throat. My HUD turned to static from their energy. "Take this champion's command. You are out of the hunt. Next time, I won't show mercy..." "What are you?" I asked. "A Starcaster. An alternative to Bladedancers..." Jesse turned invisible, and the weight on my chest was gone. I laid there silently as steam lifted off of me, my arms short-circuiting, and my shoulders bleeding. "Alan?!.... Alan?!.... Alan?!" The loud voice was approaching me. I opened my eyes to see I had nodded off for a couple of hours. I scurried up and checked my surroundings. I could see Colt in the distance, "Alan?!" "Over here, Colt..." I winced in pain as I supported myself against a tree. "Who kicked your a** this time?!" Asked Colt as he scanned me a few times. "Oh, the usual. A Redjack, Crucible master, Starcaster..." I said as I slipped back down to the ground. "A who?!" "A Starcaster... I don't know," I sat still as Colt tried to mend the wires. "Come on, let's get you back to camp..." Colt hovered beside me as I limped along. "What caused this change in attitude?" I asked. "The breather..." Colt tried to smile, but his sorrow still outweighed it. I pushed the door open to see three barrels pointed at my head. I squinted and looked down them, "Yup. They're loaded..." "D***it, Alan! I could've shot you!" Kourtney cried as she slammed the door shut behind me. "Well, at least security is still good," I gave a smile as I sat down. Guldrean walked up to me, a horrified look crossed his face when he saw my arms, "Ow! That looks like it hurts..." The beetle chirped as it landed on his shoulder, "Beanie agrees..." "No, don't worry. Bionic arms remember?" I held up my right arm, which sparked with energy. "What happened?" Alpha asked as he inspected the cuts all over me, "There are very little slashes on you". "I found Jesse..." I said as Kourtney wiped the blood from around my eye. "The Redjack? Alone?!" She exclaimed. I gritted my teeth slightly, "Yes, I fought--" "Did you get the flag?!" Guldrean asked cheerfully as he bounced around. "He just got his a** handed to him... Do you think he got the flag?" Colt looked to Guldrean. "Well... no..." Guldrean's voice dialed down as he looked down. "Colt, don't," I scolded. Kourtney forced me to look her in the eyes, "Well, next time could you remember you have a team behind you?" Hearing those words made me jump inside. I gave a slight nod after looking around.
