Let's take a step back from the story real quick and look at it from a "watcher" perspective.
Look at this, all of it. We're under attack by multiple forces for reasons ranging from beliefs to resources.
There are so many open ends, so many stories all taking place. There's just generically SO MUCH!
The hive want to consume our traveler and it's light while carving the universe into the perfect shape.
The fallen want to take back the traveler (the great machine) and bring glory back to their houses.
The vex want to make an emperor of all outcomes and weave themselves into reality itself. They're playing the long game of survival.
We still don't even fully know why the cabal want us dead. Maybe they just want the resources here, maybe they're also trying to reach the traveler, maybe they're trying to learn how the vex operate. Any way, we still don't fully know.
These are some of the many plot points that are, as of now, on hold.
Toland is wondering through the ascendant hive realms.
The stranger hints that she'll meet with us soon.
Osiris is exploring the vex network.
Saint-14 was sent after Osiris.
Prince uldren is somewhere on mars with an unknown agenda.
The reef is experimenting with the taken and it's power.
Oryx's sisters are likely to soon come for the taken throne.
The mysterious nokris who we know next to nothing about.
The message sent to the cabal empire requesting help.
Station A-113 and it's unknown purpose.
Rasputin and his hidden agendas
The ahamkara (wish dragon) spotted around Jupiter
The nine and their hidden agendas.
The house of kings and their agendas.
other relics of darkness like the black heart.
Even the pyramid ships in the loading screen.
And so much more
There may be other races out in our galaxy that we don't even know exist. Races unaffected by the war between light and dark. Maybe the moth people still exist. Maybe we'll see the breeding ground of the hive tunneling worms. Maybe there are more travelers beyond our struggles and conflicts.
There's so many stories unfolding and so many stories to begin. This is truly just the tip of the iceberg here.
When you look at this story from a watcher perspective, you realise how very little we know or even understand of this story. How much more we have yet to learn.
Now step back in to our story with this in mind, question everything. And find answers where you can.
It will be some time, dear guardians, before we have a firm grasp on our story as warriors of the light.

Edited by Ghost593835: 7/29/2016 8:33:21 PMFal take a bigger step back. You see that Marathon ship. Yeah, it's been there for a while. You know what that means? Marathon 4 confirmed.
W’rkncacnter is coming.
Edited by TheLastRib: 7/12/2016 11:40:05 PMwe don't know why the psions work for the cabal. we don't know what the cabal want. we don't know what the cabal are running from. we don't know whats behind that big black door across from the speaker. warlock vanguard is probably trying to create hair growth formula. zavala is probably waiting until she does so he can use it too. why won't they just let cayde-6 leave the tower. why does variks ask if you left your ship running (or it was if you left your ship unlocked i think) where is osiris. why oryx became a pokemon trainer because his son is dead (think about it. he is a pokemon trainer). where are the faction backstories and things. why is cryptarch a jerk. why oryx adopted the dark blade then put him in prison. why oryx left crota in the basement. why the vex can't find a time line where they defeat the guardians. who the cabal general (or emperor was) why shaxx doesn't care if saladin voiced over the battles. why the enemy doesn't care what we call ourselves. who is that awesome hive knight known as hector (i know it isn't hector but he looks like one). the things in golgoroth's back are for in case he falls over he can chase you. where is the queen. is the queens brother dead. why crota's biggest fan is in court of oryx. also.
why am i a pocket sized warlock?
You think of all the thing we have yet to learn, and then you think of all of the thing we have learned: -You are a guardian. Kill bad guys. You don't need to know why. -Go to The Black Garden! I don't know what it is but you have to kill something in it for an unknown reason. It's probably a threat or something. We were just told to do it by some random Exo. -Speaking of the Exo, we don't know anything about her because she has so little time to explain. -Now go into a Vex vault and kill some stuff. This is actually explained some.(Yay!) -Now go kill Crota, a hive god. This poses three questions- Why? (This is explained- he wants to take over Earth.) I thought gods were invincible? (Well, not this one.) So you're just going to introduce a new villain without explaining everything that has already happened? (Yup.) -Some fallen have betrayed the Queen of the Reef! You owe her a favor, so go kill them! (I guess that makes sense. But seriously, no raid? Come on.) -Crota's dad is mad that you killed his baby boy so he came to our system to kill you! The Queen sacrificed herself to stop him, and after 10 months we still don't know what happened to her brother (Who by the way should have had an epic part of the original story. Thank you, Activision!). This makes sense, but you still aren't explaining anything that happened before. -A dude came to try to steal the throne from the king you killed! This is not an official expansion, and introduces no new patrol objectives or a new raid- but it does have one whole strike! And, we brought back a strike we left behind before as an additional favor! (No comment.) -Pretty soon, some fallen will get a disease and fight Saladhead! Yes, there will be a raid. No, we will not be explaining any of the previous story or why this is happening before the Cabal Armada arrives to act on the distress call from the Dreadnaught. And yes, this is the second fallen expansion, following the second hive expansion, but we have never had a Cabal or Vex expansion. Don't get me wrong, I love Destiny. But Bungie has made some incredibly frustrating decisions.

Ayyyy lmao! Thank you for putting it into words! You have no idea how hard I try to explain everything to my friends who don't play, but I just can't get the words out right. So thank you! There's also that small tid-bit that Ghost pointed out. When we go into Rasputin's Bunker to clean out the Taken Blight, and get the cloaking codes, we come across that small computer panel and monitor. Ghost scans it, and says that this is one of the first stations Rasputin awoke from. Yet, it appears that it all started from this one little computer. Perhaps Rasputin didn't wake himself? And if not, then who? Also, the Exo Lore. We know very little about the Exo race as compared to the Awoken and Humans. I'd love to visit that legendary tower where it is said the first Exo consciousness was born.

What about Black Garden grim card?
a Guardian named Pujari went to the Black Garden and was basically told that Guardians are a dead thing, made by a dead power in the shape of the dead. All we ever do is kill. Not knowing why. We just do. This Guardian then said he felt doubt after looking around and noticing that the Garden is a place of life.
Guardians might actually be the bad guys in the universe? No better than the Hive? Who knows.
-
Im pretty sure oryx killed his sisters to become that powerful. As his worm needed to feed but the only people that were more powerful than him were his sisters. Something along those lines.
-
pyramid ships in the loading screen
I'm sorry, but what?
-
To answer why the Cabal want us dead, We hacked into their computer and they responded by attempting to remove the possible threat. You know what happened then. Also there is a Grim. Card that explains the action of the Guardian, mostly ours, that have transpired leading up to them crashing into the Dreadnaught.
-
You seem pretty confused, that's for sure. But I know exactly what's going on.
Point and shoot
If there was an in game kiosk, where the grimoire was read to us in game, I would waste hours listening to it. Already wasted hours reading it. lol
-
My theory on the Cabal: I believe they stumbled upon our system by accident, and, seeing all the resources and technology sitting around ripe for the taking, started an expeditionary campaign in our system without really knowing what they were getting into. Reading the Grimoire tells me that the Cabal weren't exactly prepared for a century-long war of attrition with the Vex, or constant hit-and-run strikes from Guardians. Their lack of preparedness, combined with their catastrophic losses (58% of the Sand Eaters, their main force, wiped out by the Taken), make me believe that the Cabal just wanted our resources, and didn't truly understand what they were getting into. It's like putting a bunch of soldiers with machine guns up against an army of witches with occult magic (which I guess is what happened on the Dreadnaught). I think the Cabal are going to end up looking more like the Fallen if this keeps up: a broken and divided people just trying to scrape by. They're also probably running very low on commanders at this point. Let's take a look here: Bracus Tho'ourg - killed by Guardians Bracus Tha'arn - killed by Guardians Bracus Horu'usk - taken by Oryx Valus Ta'aurc - killed by Guardians Primus Sha'aul - killed by Guardians Primus Ta'aun - taken by Oryx Primus A'arn - taken by Oryx Valus Mau'aul and Valus Tlu'urn - killed by Guardians Valus Trau'ug - mutinied, disowned by the Emperor, imprisoned in the Prison of Elders Various other commanders of unknown rank (Vro'ourn, Sho'oulth, etc.) - taken or killed Even with reinforcements on the way, the Cabal are clearly exhausted, and since they can't return home until they win, I think we'll be seeing more mutinies in the future. Perhaps we'll even see Cabal among the Fallen. This is just what I think the future of the Cabal will be. It could turn out very differently.
-
Destiny's plot can be summed up in five words: If it moves, it dies. That's enough for me.
-
Cool someone else who appreciates a non linear story.
-
The fact that you're trying to think Destiny has much of a story at all (and make sense of it)... is laughable. Maybe we'll get a story in Destiny 2, but honestly I don't care. The game is still fun either way.
-
When you look at this story from a watcher perspective, you realise how very little we know or even understand of this story. How much more we have yet to learn.
You mean how much more Actibungie has yet to write. By the way your writing style is super annoying, I skipped to the end.
-
Can you do me a favor? Can you read my first and only post? If you like it can you tell others. Thanks in advance if you do. If you don't, that's col too.
-
Destiny needs mor explanation, but I guess that's what makes us stay in between DLC's, wondering what the answers are to unknown questions.
-
It's the same thing with Dragon Age. Both Bungie and Bioware created a world that they know the truth behind. Then, they only reveal so much to us in each game, or in Bungie's case, each DLC. It's actually a really good artistic talent in story telling and writing to have.
-
And hopefully I'm not the only one who wonders why people say destiny has no story
-
So... What you're saying is nerf fusion rifles.
-
Whenever I hear the original soundtrack the nostalgia hits me and I think of all the mysteries and lore in this game
-
It shouldnt be too long Fal, this is actually the greatest story in game history if you ask me. But then again no one asked me, so I will try my best to explain in an easter egg reveal that I will have completed soon...
-
What gets me is that we understand the purpose of the Darkness with extreme clarity, yet what is the purpose of the Light? What is it's end-game? *crickets*

Edited by Thane: 7/13/2016 2:44:33 AM"When you look at this story from a watchers prospective, you realize how very little we know" ..... And thats a good thing ?? First, its lore and half of what we know is unoriginal/rubbish writing wise (little good parts unexplored), the rest is way too vague. Second of all the things you could have brought up, you wanna talk about the "story" ?? What story ?? "You're a guardian ...... Big Crota is bad, go kill him ...... There's a prison where u can go and freely kill anyone there for kicks ...... Remember big bad Crota ? His daddy is now angry, go kill him". Thats your story ?? The only real significant addition to the lore in two years wasn't even in the game again(book of sorrows) And with lines like "i swear by the mother jelly", its getting embarrassing at this points. Lets focus on the great gunplay and look for substance somewhere else .... "Story" he said.

We will look back at now and think how small everything was compared to all the stuff that will happen. The battle between good and evil on a cosmic scale, true Armageddon playing itself out. This is a great story
