Is the point of this game just to explore?
Will I have any other reason to go to a planet other than 'because I want to'?
I'd like a new adventure game, but I'm on the fence.

It's a survival game at it's core, but there is an overarching goal of reaching the centre of the galaxy. I'm not one for survival titles most of the time. Things like Minecraft and Don't Starve, where the goal is to simply make the game last longer, aren't my kinds of game. But a scifi survival title with endless amounts of content and something to actually do? Sign me the -blam!- up. :D

What is there to actually do over other survival games? Is there ever a sense of danger or is it just a giant canvas for me to look around on?

There is certainly danger: not just from hazardous environments (planets with extreme conditions: heat, cold, acid rain, etc.), but there are planetary guardians in the form of Sentinels. Basically robots that come along and try to kill you if you start wreaking havoc on a planet. Meaning kill too many beasties, harvest too many resources, etc. It works like a GTA wanted system in that the worse your transgression or the more you continue, the robots get bigger and badder. Also you can get attacked by pirates or enemy factions in space.

Edited by Psyntifik: 7/11/2016 4:31:45 PMOkay, so at least there's that. I've ran out of downtime games, so NMS seems pretty easy to sit back and chill out with. The only thing that will put me off now is a Facebook style base building system, and if the combat is just like CoD or something. The only survival games to really grip me are true survival games. If robots are coming out of the woodwork and I'm mowing them down with a machine gun I get bored, but if they are few and far between and fights are desperate clings to survival, I'll be really happy. Seems Steam might continue to get money out of me after the damn sale! Thanks for the info.

It's k. Also, no base building. :D
