Rubicon Wastes, Mars. Every time I see a post about the best/favorite places to patrol, I see some great places like The Divide, Skywatch, Shattered Coast etc. But nobody seems to like Mars. Mars is a big map. It can be confusing at first. It helps if you imagine the basic layout like a big figure-8. There's a loop that runs up into the mountains to the tunnels of Iron Line, and the other loop runs downhill into the Buried City of Freehold. Scablands is the intersection in the middle. Rubicon Wastes is a canyon way up in the mountains. You spawn there for the Valus Tupac strike. (I call him Valus Tupac ok? You probably know him as "Rockets McDickface") Anyway, this canyon is my favorite area in the game. Why? Well, there are several reasons. 1. Free unlimited Interceptors. That's right. This has been there since launch but it's STILL not known by many. Three Interceptors infinitely spawn in the Cabal garage in the middle of the canyon, just like in the strike. 2. Skydiving. Cabal Harvesters enter and leave Mars vertically, meaning if you jump on top of one while the troops jump out, and spawn your sparrow, it will launch you really, really, REALLY high in the air. There's one specific ship that is easy to ride repeatedly. 3. Interesting terrain. It's a canyon. Cliffs with nooks and crannies to explore everywhere. Hole yourself up in a sniper hole and spy on some silly Cabal. 4. Multiple events. Besides Taken (which can be annoying) there are also the Fallen Wolves off in one corner who come by frequently. Public Events to kill a target also happen occasionally. 5. Something about the atmosphere... This is more of a personal thing, but I just feel comfortable in that canyon. It seems so familiar. Something about it only being accessible from tunnels gives it a disconnect from the rest of the map. Like its own little valley of sand, perched atop a rocky mountain. High above the anxieties and stress of the bustling Vex down below in Freehold. I think it reminds me of Blood Gulch from Halo. A distant little canyon far away from all the other problems of Destiny. Edit- Fun Things To Do With Interceptors 1. Campfire Punch Interceptor until it catches fire. Park anywhere for portable campfire. Will not despawn unlike sparrows. 2. Volleyball Have two SUNBREAKER TITANS with charged Sunstrike melees stand on either side of a dune. Punch Interceptor over dune (it will go flying, trust me). Get a good volley going. If it lands on you, you might die. Edit edit- We need to stage a volleyball tournament. Can anyone make this a thing? Deej? Cosmo? If there was a Sparrow Stunt tournament last year, we need a Volley-Ceptor Tournament this year.
