It interests me but I don't the painting skills or the money to invest into making an army. I have very minor knowledge on the franchise (Purge. Cleanse. Kill.) anyone able to suggest a decent starting point?

If you are really intrested start with a small Necron army, its a pretty strong army and very easy to paint. Space Marines is also a solid first choice but I personaly found them to be a bit boring and they require a lot more models.

What do you mean by starting point?

i don't know, a book, game, model, anything that could provide an effective way to start exploring the franchise

For a book, maybe go for the rule book. It has tips, a bit of lore, and rules if you do start to play. For models, I'd say buy a starter set, some glue (pro tip: make sure the glue moves in the bottle at least a little, otherwise it's dried) and a few cutters, some small files, and small scalpels. If you wear to paint you'll need to chose a paint scheme and paint them (tip: use the citadel paints, as they work better than the Chester paints, citadel paints are acrylic, and work best for the models. If you are looking for a game and think space marines are cool, wait just a little longer for space hulk deathwing to come out. It's a FPS co op Warhammer 40k game coming out sometime in 2016 Feel free to pm me if you need any other help or advice or whatnot, as ,y notifications don't work and it's more reliable

Space hulk deathwing.....I'll look into it, my only issue with the models, is I couldnt paint a wall even if it only required one colour (exaggerating of course)

Maybe a magnifying glass could help.
