This is like a d&d type game right? Or at least the version your talking about?

  • The version he's referring to? No. While 40k as an IP has many games tied to it, the main one is a tabletop war game in which both at least two people attempt to either clear remove the enemy's army from the board, or complete specific objectives depending on the game type agreed upon. That being said there are plenty of D&D like Warhammer 40k games: -You can play Dark Heresy which involves life as an Inquisitorial acolyte trying to investigate and destroy any foul forces attempting to corrupt and bring ruin to Imperium of Man from within. -You can play Only War, and experience what life is like in the Imperial Guard (which will probably include dying horribly really quickly, and Guardsmen are known for). -You can play Rogue Trader, get yourself a ship or two, and enjoy being legally allowed to to out there and explore the cosmos in the name of trying to get fabulously rich in any way short of siding against the Imperium of Man. -You can play Deathwatch, and experience life as an elite, almighty Space Marine selected to join the Inquisition to deal with special cases involving the many alien races in the 40k universe. You're gonna mow down HORDES in this one. -Or, you can play Black Crusade, where you side with the Imperium's most hated enemy, the forces of Chaos, in an effort to please whichever God(s) you've devoted yourself to and see that those in the Imperium either do the same or die.

Oh wow, that looks really cool. I might have to look into playing that one day. Is it costly to get started?

It certainly can be. The cheapest way to start would most likely be to go for a Start Collecting Kit, which go for $85 normally (although some game shops may offer a discount), unless you can find somebody willing to sell units for cheaper.
