So the SABER strike was to open up that servitor. But Rasputin sent a distress call so that we could stop them.
It doesn't make sense who Rasputin is helping. Us? Or the fallen?

Rasputin's objective is to WIN against IT (the darkness) and Rasputin knows or believes that the traveller is key, which is why it had the Loki Crown protocol in case the traveller tried to flee, so the fallen trying to compromise the traveller is a threat to Rasputin's objective, thus they needed to be stopped. So the short answer is really neither. We had mutual goals in this case.

Rasputin is an AI. He has no "feelings" as such, or preferences. He simply has goals. He does not care how he reaches that goal, as long as he reaches it. Rasputin's goal, is to ensure the survival of the human race. When he sees something as a threat to the human race, he will act accordingly.
-
his goal is actually to ensure his own survival, even if it costs the lives of humans
-
Why do you believe that? Not trying to be a douchenozzle lol, just curious as to why You would think that.
-
I think it relays back to MIDNIGHT_EXIGENT, one of his protocols.
-
That was to continue his primary protocol to protect humanoids life on earth. Had the darkness destroyed him like the other warminds in the system he would have failed that objective, so shutting down allowed him to last longer. I feel he kept is safe according to his protocol due to crippling the traveler and creating us to defend humanity while he was shut down. Just me though lol

I don't remember where it says it but in something in the game it says Rasputin doesn't care if you live or not.
He gives no f*** about yo.
Probably the part where Zavala states that the last time he sent a strike team to talk to him he found their body parts scattered across the skywatch?
-
Ah, my mistake. My post was more centered around what lengths an AI will go to without conceivable reason :/
-
That it's a mistake is debatable. Rasputin has at least some regrets about what he had to do to ensure his own survival during the Collapse, and he obviously isn't just trying to survive long enough to see the universe succumb to entropy. Even if he is just trying to survive, ensuring that Guardians are able to continue doing their jobs will be beneficial for the time being- after all, the City is after Rasputin's secrets, too, and they need him to be alive in order to get access to them.

Edited by FIRE WRAITH 01: 6/15/2016 12:18:38 AMRasputin is helping himself. He views everything in a logical "machine-like" way, but with protocols he can't ignore (AKA keep the human race alive). So he plays a game of chess with anything and everyone. And the prize? The extinction or salvation of humanity. Huh ... I wonder if someone at Bungie is a fan of the movie "Wargames"?
-
Love that movie. Had the game on PS1 lol
-
Rasputin doesn't give a damn about everything.
-
Rasputin is Rasputin. He only asks for help when he desperately needs it. That and he just says -blam!- you to whoever he doesn't like. That's why I like Rasputin.
-
You do realize we were able to ask for his help and he would give it right? Hee protected 272 copies of the ishtar sink science team from the vex and their programming. We had a very good, or at least better standing with him once upon a time. If, and i mean if, no evidence, but if he knew about this Siva threat, him not talking to us now could be protecting us still. Depending on how Bungie wants to roll lol

Rasputin is kinda like that pouty emo kid who needs help but doesn't want to admit it so he makes trouble to get help.
