Anime Girls Review: K-On!

Unlike many anime, K-On! is not very sexual. There is minimal fanservice, instead favoring to highlight the cuteness of the characters. The girls are "moe," with huge eyes and a cute disposition. This allows for the animators to easily express the emotions of the characters. The characters have a slightly pudgy look to them as well. Thanks to the emotive, engaging characters I thoroughly enjoyed K-On! Mio Akiyama http://i.imgur.com/ekMe2zm.jpg 10/10 Mio is easily my favorite. She is the most mature looking of the group. She plays bass and is left handed. She's the most mature looking of the girls, with long black hair and a deeper voice. This is accompanied with a matching personality. Mio acts very mature and is the most studious of the group. In contrast to her mature demeanor, Mio is very shy and skittish. She is easily scared, and Ritsu goes out of her way to frighten Mio. Mio is afraid of the spotlight, choosing bass because she didn't want to be in center stage. She is one of two vocalists and writes the lyrics to most of the songs played by HTT. During one concert Mio falls, revealing her panties. This leads to a fan club forming around her. The contrast between Mio's mature personality and inherent shyness makes her the best character in the show. Yui Hirasawa http://i.imgur.com/Ndb9wAA.jpg 6/10 Yui is an idiot. She's an airhead with a huge personality. Yui is easily the most immature and is often very childish. She relies on her dependable younger sister Ui for almost everything. She plays guitar and is the lead vocalist of HTT. Yui is the most animated character, always brimming with emotion. She often makes large movements that are highlighted by the movement of her hair. It's striking to see Yui's head moments accompanied by her flowing hair. Everything about her radiates energy. She's annoying as -blam!- though. Tsumugi "Mugi" Kotobuki http://i.imgur.com/oRPdmEI.jpg 9/10 Mugi is the band's keyboardist and has the best eyebrows I've ever seen. She's rich, but feels ashamed by that fact. She does her best to hide her family's money, often going to extremes to be more normal. Mugi supplies all of the tea and snacks the light music club consumes instead of practicing. Mugi is fairly quite, but when she wants to do something she'll make it clear. She can be a bit overzealous at times, and can get very excited when doing "normal" things. Mugi seems to have an interest in romance between two girls and may herself be sexually attracted to women. I was disappointed to see that Mugi was often sidelined, instead focusing on other characters. I would have loved to see more Mugi. Ritsu Tainaka http://i.imgur.com/hj8buTc.jpg 8/10 Ritsu is the irresponsible president of the light music club. She is the drummer of HTT. Ritsu is tomboyish and not a very high achiever in school. She wants to have fun and isn't concerned with her clerical duties. Ritsu often teases Mio, with whom she is close friends. I quite enjoyed her character and she complimented Mio well. Azusa "Azunyan" Nakano http://i.imgur.com/1xWw24h.jpg 9/10 Azusa is HTT's other guitarist. She is more skilled than Yui and helps teach her new techniques. Azusa can be very strict, often getting angry when her band-mates elect to have tea instead of practice. She is in a possession of a turtle named Ton-chan. Azusa is a year younger than the others, and this leaves her worried she will be left alone once they graduate. This results in a great ending where the characters come to terms with graduation.
