Anyone defending SBMM is either delusional or hasn't even played in year one to have a valid reference point when trying to compare it with CBMM.
People have quit this game over the past few months because they're sick and tired of having to use the same competitive guns over and over and over again just because they don't have a chance to mess around and try other ones. Using the same load-outs 24/7 results in extreme boredom after a few hrs of playing.
However, in the past when there was CBMM, one had the opportunity to use any gun they pleased and still be able to win some games, which meant you could have fun over a longer period of time.
To those defending SBMM... if you thought PVP was laggy when Bungie was actually trying to make the connection better (CBMM), imagine how garbage it's gonna be when they don't give a -blam!- about it (now).

Really! They can use any gun at anytime. They choose to protect KD vs just having fun. Why should the average player be paired against top tier players just so they can use their other guns without hurting their KD. A game with average, to just above average, is hard for me, just like top tier may be for you. I will never be good but it's players like me that keep it going.

Edited by jetrotor: 5/24/2016 8:56:58 PMThe chance of running into a top-tier team would be 1%, as that's the percentage of players they represent as a whole. That means that under CBMM, you would run into one of those teams for every 100 games you play. If you can't handle getting destroyed 1 time out of 100 games, then this game might not be for you.
-
Forgive my ignorance of the proper use of top tier. When your average players in the top 25-30 percent still stomp you.

Understandable.

I played year one and it was if anything worse for lag. Trials doesn't match skill and it still lags like a plumber on speed. Dedicated servers are the answer, not letting Bungie off easy with some elitist matchmaking changes. I'd be fine with optional CBMM, but at the same time I doubt you'd end up getting the easy wins you want out of it (Trials isn't skill matched after all)

Edited by jetrotor: 5/24/2016 8:11:58 PMIn my case, trials is the least laggy pvp gamemode as it ques me up with people from the same continent at least, not against Russian, Norweigan, German, French, Finnish people whom I share mutual lag with. I sometimes receive hate messages for the lag, only to receive an apology msg a few min later when they realize we're on opposite sides of the planet and blame bungie for it. Dedicated servers would fix the problem, but it's something Bungie has been dodging ever since the release, so it's not happening.

Looking at your stats you represent less than 1% of the player base. You understand it would be grotesquely unfair to ruin the game for everyone else for your sake?
-
My sake? I'm probably in a similar situation than most of you regardless of my stats. If you look deeply into my stats, you'd find that my most used weapon is fusion rifles. In fact, I have over 65,000 kills with them. I don't even use shotguns, snipers, or exotic handcannons. Fusions rifles are not competitive or "meta" weapons, they pale in comparison to what a skilled shotgun or sniper user can do, and yet I'm forced to play with all the top-tier tryhards who use nothing but Thorn, TLW, Longbow, Matador. A game shouldn't force you into using weapons you don't want to just for the sake of winning.
-
You're not even in the same league as the overwhelming majority. Sorry to say it but they're not going to compromise the experience of the 99% to help you. I get the thing about guns, they should all be viable (and to be fair they mostly are at my level).
-
You use percentages but don't actually observe what they're implying. With CBMM, you would have a 1/100 chance of running into a top-tier fireteam because that's the percentage of players they represent (1%). People defending SBMM are acting as if CBMM would put them up against sweaty ppl all the time, which is not the case. In fact, most players (top-tier or not) would argue that they're playing sweaty games all the time, which is something nobody wants anymore.
-
I'm happy to have competitive games all the time. An yes I think you'd run into over skilled players for a few reasons: 1. It's probably the top 10% who would run roughshod over rookies. I know this because I've occasionally teamed up with inexperienced buddies for Iron Banner and my presence wrecked the game. I'm not even top 10% either. 2. The better players are better because they play PvP more, so they'll have a disproportionate impact 3. Every game you're in you wreck for up to 11 other players. As a tangent: 4. Your skills will rapidly deteriorate due to lack of challenge

-
Your observation is only valid for the case of top-tier players who only use TLW, Thorn, Snipers, Shotguns, and all other weapons that are considered "Meta", but what about other good players (Tier 2 if you wanna call them that) who want to play with non-meta guns such as fusion rifles or primaries not including exotic handcannons? If top-tier player A is using a fusion rifle against top-tier B who's using a sniper rifle, A will always be at a disadvantage. A has two choices: either be forced to switch to "meta" weapons, or get destroyed. If I want to use weaker, non-meta weapons, I should be able to do so, not be forced to use only 3 guns in the game just to win.

I was simply questioning the statement that somehow the meta in HoW allowed for more diversity than the present day (as well as how that could majorly be impacted by SBMM other than allowing for more pubstomps to potentially occur). At present, there's at least some combat scenarios in which you will be at an advantage with the fusion over the sniper. In HoW I would be hard pressed to come up with any situation on any map in which a fusion rifle not called Plan C would be anything but an automatic death going up against a shotty.
