Vast majority of gamers are against sbmm, not just the top players. I am a little better than average at pvp, I hate sbmm. I'd love to play with my son and can't, he gets killed. I bought him his own ps4 so we could play, but it's not fun for him going 4-20, after going 20-8, when playing alone. It's not about padding stats, it's a fn video game, it's meant to be fun. I surf, when I was younger I entered competitions, they were exciting, but some times you just want to have fun, surf, and hang with friends. Sbmm doesn't allow for that. Destiny is not meant to be pro level competition pvp, and that's where sbmm may have it's place. What I know is sbmm has ruined games in the past. It is not viewed in a positive way, by the gaming community. There is a reason they snuck it in and lied about it. It's a huge part of why they lost most of their player base and got desperate enough to drop a patch handing everyone 335. It also played a part in getting the ceo fired, which happened when everyone quit playing. They even came out and confessed to adding sbmm and said sorry and said they'd actually communicate in the future. They have slowly been removing pieces of it ever since, but removing parts wont work. It just needs to be removed completely. In a game with p2p servers, that is not meant to be competitive, sbmm has no place. All it does is make a few guys feel better about themselves and think they are better at pvp, than they really are. I and all the year one players learned and improved with cbmm. Yes, I took some beatings, but I won too and always got my bounties done. Most players consider year one crucible, when it was good/fun. We get better, in all things in life, by facing bigger and better things/competition. We don't improve playing one level of competition. We get better when that amazing player/athlete gives us a beat down and then we add what we saw to our practice/game.

  • sbmm provides the bigger and better consistently I get what your saying but I also remember playing 15 games in a row where we won or lost by twice as many points

  • Most of the player base left due to sbmm? Where is proof that 1, most of the player base left, and 2, it was because of sbmm? The ceo was fired due to sbmm? Where is your proof? Good job making stuff up!

  • I switched to Halo during the SBMM fiasco. Destiny was imho unplayable back then, if you weren't in the top 70%. (loved how they blamed SLR)

  • My past 2 clans dissolved. NONE, and I mean NONE, do I ever see on Destiny. My roster list would be 2-3 pages long on reset day and even longer when add ons dropped. Now, when I log in to MAYBE play a match or 2 or when I get invited to a raid from one friend who just into the game, I see maybe 0-4 people on.

  • Your friends list means nothing in a game with as many players. It does not mean most of the player base left! It ONLY proves that the players on your list left!

  • Most people have left, if the daily PVP population hovers between 400-600k. Guardian.gg tracks daily unique Crucible visitors.

  • Well said, I totally agree. Connection quality should never be sacrificed in any online video game for ANY reason.

  • Wow, read the first line, and thought "that's a dumb thing to say". If the "vast majority of gamers are against SBMM", then why is this post trending? Why does mtashed have more likes on this post than dislikes? I would contend that the vast majority of gamers support SBMM. I don't want to play against mtashed until I get much better than I am now. Without SBMM, I might play against someone in the top 10% every game. With it, I have some insulation against these try hards (not meant as an insult). No, I think the vast majority of gamers absolutely support SBMM. The evidence is right here, on this topic.

Because he is Mtached and has quite a few followers. People who advocate for SBMM in Destiny are, let's face it, clueless idiots. As a non-competitive, laggy, unbalanced game without ranked/social playlists, dedicated servers, private matches and a stable meta, Destiny has no business of employing SBMM. If you want to see game that absolutely should and has implemented SBMM, you can take a look at Halo 5. That's a game made from the ground up for competitive play and thus SBMM. Funnily enough I switched from Destiny to Halo in December 2015. Destiny is pretty much the anti-thesis of Halo, in terms of competitive play. So I have no idea why it should use a similar matchmaking.

  • If you would have read further, you might have actually learned something. For example that I am for SBMM, but only if the correct infrastructure is available. Also, in case of a misunderstanding: A certain form of SBMM is necessary. It's just that we need a far bigger focus on connection.

  • Are you talking about Dedicated Servers? If so, I, and everyone in the entire world, agree that Destiny needs Dedicated Servers. If Destiny had them, SBMM would work like a dream. However, it does not have them. That should not mean that we don't have SBMM. Remember, Bungie already reduced the effectiveness of their SBMM because of the massive cry fest from top tier players. This is the "certain form of SBMM" that is necessary. They already gave us a bigger focus on connection. It didn't even slow down the river of tears from the top 1%. I agree that more tweaks are needed. These tweaks should not reduce the power of SBMM, but should give the top 1% a better connection. If these tweaks place me in a game against mtashed, I'll become a permanent PVE player. Kind of like I was in year 1. Only poked my head into PVP for Iron Banner.

  • I understand what you mean, however your chance of actually playing against mashed wasn't exactly big in Y1 either. Do me the favour and read my whole comment above. I am glad that we can agree in dedicated servers, but that's not everything.

  • Honestly, I did read it the first time, I just got mad, so I turned off my brain. There are competitive modes, Osiris. The game is laggy as hell, agreed. I agree we need ranked playlists (and that might be a place for CBMM only). I don't see why private matches and a stable meta would affect SBMM. I haven't played Halo 5, but I bought it a couple days ago. When people try to take away the thing that has finally made Crucible fun for me, I don't really want to give them a fair shot at explaining themselves.

  • yeah, NO! Most players don't want CBMM back. People didn't quit this game over SBMM. They quit over lack of content, the CEO wasn't fired over PVP he was fired cause he failed to get a DLC out in time for the First quarter making the returns lousy. Maybe you will understand it better this way No Makey Money No Keepy Job. When CBMM was in place, very few people played crucible. It was a disgusting, lag switching, try hard disaster. Someone, just starting out had absolutely no chance to improve. They were just pub stomped consistently. I know I was there. I wouldn't touch crucible until they put SBMM in, now it's actually fun. It's ok when I lose as I know I lost cause, I screwed up. Not because, I was matched against some insanely talented, lagging streamer. We all know streamers on average do better because, they flip up their broadcast to Hi-def which causes lag. I know I myself have done it. You will have a much harder time killing me when I do that. Very few invest in enough upload bandwidth. BTW, as you improve in SBMM you get matched up with players at your new level. So, you get a chance to improve over time. Not get pub stomped till you quit.

Lol, the Crucible player numbes of Y1 are above the Y2 numbers. I switched from Destiny to Halo, because of the SBMM fiasco and their lies concerning this theme. I'm not an idiot, I know when my matches are ridiculousy laggier than before.

  • Yeah literally every game I played last night was super try hard. Really had to focus to get kills and not suck hard, which sometimes, I just want to suck hard and not get absolutely abused in the process Sexual puns intended.

  • I know it's fun to pull stuff out of your ass, but you shouldn't say the vast majority are against sbmm without any data to back it up. Sbmm is the best thing for average players, most players probably aren't even aware of it but it's improving their experience nonetheless.

  • agreed, both on pulling stuff out of my ass being fun, (more so than putting it in) and that SBMM is great for average players. It lets me run around and kill stuff with a reasonable chance of not getting pubstomped immediately upon start.
