So, here's the thought. Technically, you are the Master Chief of the Guardians. Us other players, don't actually exist. So, he isn't watching EVERY game, he is only watching YOUR game: He gets a little notification from fans that a Guardian, you, are wrecking face. He watches with intent, his excitement exceeds his patience as he joyfully exclaims at your success. To him, you are his prodigy, his champion. This is the case for literally everything, short of a raid, or arena.

  • The same break in immersion happens with Exotics, there supposed to be one of a kind but everyone in the tower has one ;)

  • There are some points in the game where it doesn't allow for one player to be the Hero. Such as a raid, or Prison of Elders. But the way I see it, the story plays out like this: Your ghost finds you, after searching for years and years for a being with remarkable light. After reviving you, both you and your ghost escape the Cosmodrome, watched by the Stranger, who also has been searching for a Hero who can change the flow of time, and stop the resurrection of the Heart of Darkness. Naturally, there have been and are other Guardians, each assigned tasks and they carry them out without hesitation, however you are one of the few to defeat an Archon without the aid of your powers, and your Light had not fully awakened yet. Word travels fast, and the Vanguard Leaders request your presence. After some training, you are assigned a duty of investigating the rise of darkness. Time passes and you prove yourself to be an extraordinary Guardian, winning over the respect of Mara Sov and defeating the Vex to stop the resurrection of the Heart of Darkness. Of course, this victory is only fleeting, as the work of a Guardian is never truly finished. You are tasked with forming a fireteam, and investigating the strange signals from within the Vault of Glass. So, you venture forth with five Guardians you selected, met through your travels and adventures. Together you defeat Atheon, parting ways and freeing time. However, Eris returns with some troubling news, as the Hive are rising and becoming far more hostile and coordinated. She reports this to the Vanguard, and Ikora determines who better is suited for the job, than the champion who lead a team into the Vault of Glass, survived, and beat the Vex, stopping the Heart of Darkness? You undergo mission, gaining reputation for your feats, defeating Omnigul, and the Envoys of Crota. The time has come, Eris employs you to venture into Crota's Realm and bring upon him, his end. You gather your former allies, and perhaps some new ones, and venture within. Successful, you slay Crota and all in his reign, sealing his fate. Your reputation exceeds you now, known as Hivebane wherever you venture. But alas, peace is ever fleeting, as the Queen sets forth a message to all Guardians, Skolas has broken free from the Prison of Elders, the Reef is in Disarray. Naturally, who better to send than the one who has earned the respect of the Reef? You venture forward as Ambassador to the Guardians meeting Variks and Petra. Together they assign you the tasks of investigating and hunting the insane Kell, ending in his capture. However, the Prison is still in disarray, so Variks sends you and two of your most trusted allies to end the riots. Naturally, Skolas is behind it all, and you execute him. As time passes , Oryx invades our system and the Reef fails to stop him. After proving yourself, Zavala commissions you to investigate. After Eris' revelation that Oryx has come for revenge, Cayde cannot think of anyone better than you to defeat this unknown threat. As you delve deeper into the Taken Dreadnaught, filled with threats never seem before, you ascend to Hive God, destroy the Taken King Oryx, and do what you have never done before, survived the very first time you ever ventured into the unknown, surpassing Toland, and so many other strong Guardians, now becoming Legend. Your Light is ever growing. I wouldn't be surprised if in the end of all this, our Ghost is actually the Traveler. As we grow strong, he does as well, eventually being restored and as he is bound to us, we take on the final threat, the true form of the darkness. Loaded with powers never felt before we crush it beneath our light, and for the first time ever, a true, unstoppable golden age begins.

Whilst I hope most players think of the game in this way, it is certainly nice to see the story written out for others to digest. Thank you for your post.
