After researching stats / testing out PVP on a new account, simply turning SBMM off isn't the answer. Far more people will be hurt by the change than we think. I'm not saying every gaming being ultra competitive is right either.... but we need to look a the greater good instead of what is best for the top players.

4 RepliesOn the fence much? I guess researching those stats didn't result in anything empirical. Overall you're telling us to be empathetic but be careful you're sounding awfully close like you're carrying Bungie's water. They made the changes to SBMM they can change them back. The reason they won't change them is to protect their revenue stream/active player base. But what they may not have realized is core gamers dwindling which will effect new gamers. The whole refer-a-friend program was built on this concept. Right now they're benefitting from lack of competition but when there's a real threat, a lot of core gamers will jump ship like before April.

Hey, i just watched your video on youtube, then came and looked on the forum to see this! I really like and enjoy your vids man. Especially the strategic ones. You need to play luminosity, he is also very good.

U prob lost 1.5 on ur kd because they nerfed everything...nerfed primary gun damage, range, accuracy, ammo....nerfed amount of special and heavy u can hold...nerfed shotguns and fusions...nerfed abilities n supers... if u were good at 2 piecing enemy w thorn, last word, bad juju, red death u would wreck...if u could avoid damage... n if u picked up heavy u would have machine gun ammo for days...u also got enemies heavy if u killed them too...u could get so many more supers just from heavy... players also never really camped in year 1 and the game was so fast paced...now lots of teams camp in spawn and stay close together...if u push by urself u will get teamshot cause weapons can't kill quick enough...n on top of all weapons being nerfed u don't have the ammo either... but yea we were so powerful and u could kill so much quicker...now people just camp n weapons are so butt compared to year 1...everything Got dumbed down n nerfed to shreads...probably so new players to destiny wouldn't get wrecked so fast n quit playing... There are no op weapons n everything takes so much longer to kill...there are no weapons that have crazy range n accuracy like in year 1 and everything is pretty much balanced and butt...I don't mind it being more balanced but the ttk is so much longer which just helps out camping snipers line up the snipes w no flinch whatsoever... It's hard to rack up 30, 40, 50 plus kill games cause the game is so slow paced n everyone camps in spawn n stays close to each other...u will get teamshot if u push by urself n u can't kill enemy fast enough to duck in and out of cover... Oh yea and sbmm prob did a little bit lol...

Ranked lobby with in game tracking of your rank compared to other players. Sweaties can have their sweaties all day and get that sweet satisfaction from those hard earned ranks. As it is all the ranking is 3rd party and done based on activities that are full of casual people just grinding for gear. Ranked playlist could be largely SBMM and normal playlist would be largely connection based. This is what I thought they meant when they said competitive multiplayer
-
2 RepliesCan someone explain ranked playlists? Never played much pvp before destiny so I'm not sure how it works.
-
4 RepliesI don't have a problem with SBMM. Just don't match me up with a player with a 3.5 K/D compared to my .8 or .9 depending on the day. Happened today in Elimination.

Squidguy is number one.

Just remove pvp, pvp community is aids

Edited by Gideon VI: 5/24/2016 1:21:15 AMQue the sweaty tryhards defending their broken PvP as if Destiny will ever be anything like Halo, despite the fact that it never will be due to the RPG-like nature of the game and that not everyone has access to the same arsenal that they do.

It's not bad to have pvp competitive. I just hate the fact crucible seems one sided at times. Yes you may have a terrible team but ever just get spawn killed several times and have enemies spawn behind you constantly? That's my main problem with crucible, that and the potato connections. I mean, I have good internet, why doesn't it give me or someone with good Internet host? Oh ya forgot to mention sbmm = stacked team vs solo randoms. Just saying
-
There's nothing wrong with SBMM. The only thing that's wrong is there's no unranked and rank playlist. It's either you go full sweaty or get pub stomped. And the thing that bothers me the most about SBMM is, you don't know where you stand on the leaderboard. There's no ranking system behind it. It would be pretty nice to know "hey you're in the top 5%." Just my thoughts on the matter.

Edited by The Devourer: 5/24/2016 12:49:58 AMYou know all I see is these people that say if sbmm stays it needs to be in a ranked playlist and that crucible should be left alone for fun. Fair enough I can agree that it would be alot better if there was a competitive (ranked playlist) and a fun (regular crucible) mode. But the thing is only one of those 2 modes should track any kind of stat. The competitive one. If there was actually a sbmm ranked mode that would be cool. But in a mode thats just for fun stats should not be tracked period. That way no one can go into the casual game mode and pubstomp just to pad stats. That's it if they want a purely connection based game then all the skill sorting would be absent therefore no need whatsoever to keep track of kd or w/l. Otherwise they all need to stfu and start asking for dedicated servers instead because that is the real issue.

Hi mtashed, big fan SBMM isn't good or bad. When I started this game, every match was a landslide, either we dominated or we got crushed ourselves. That wasn't particularly fun. But now, I only play about 2-5 games of crucible before I get mentally exhausted from it. Its no longer a way to relax, it's hyper competetive and the people I get matched with play like their lives depend on it. Honestly the easy answer is to have ranked playlists, a ranked 6v6 playlist, ranked 3v3, and ranked FFO. I assume that we'll have to live with the current crucible layout until D2. If D2 doesn't have a solution to this, I'll be extremely upset. If it doesn't have private custom games as an option I'll probably barely touch multiplayer

Edited by PaulEBluebird: 5/24/2016 12:26:02 AMI wouldn't imagine you could turn it off. There has probably always been an element of sbmm and probably should be. The only problem anyone should have with sbmm is the lag it causes, which bungie admitted to. They claim to of toned it down some time back but since the April update it feels like it's back for sure. I have no issue playing as sweaty as my skill level allows me, I do not like losing to lag!
-
So where are the stats and the research? All I see was you playing a few games under a new character which I did myself. After about 15-20 games SBMM kicks back in.
-
3 RepliesBump. Much better approach than the average post calling ppl under 1.5 kd scrubs and saying sbmm doesn't affect you. I regularly get high k/d on characters (outside of trials) and even in those games a lot of times I'm not enjoying myself despite doing well, and its because in most games I have to play my ass off rather than just chill and mess around like I want to.
-
It effects the community by turning them into a bunch of bitches.

Thank you Mtashed! I have fun in crucible under sbmm. I am average at best so getting stomped all the time is no fun. I also enjoy the down to the wire games! This weekend I somehow got matched in rumble against a 1.8 kd player, with over 1k rumble games played and a 57 percent win rate. That was not fun by any means! I will add however that I enjoyed year 1 crucible as well, but not nearly as much. To be honest I think I enjoyed it because of prenerf ram and hopscotch!

It's actually really simple, there are 2 solutions: 1) like you said, social and ranked playlists. 2) keep sbmm, but have dedicated servers to minimize the lag. Me, aswell as many other people, don't mind sbmm at all, however, the lag it produces is the reason why we do not want it. Bungie needs to get their heads out of their asses and realize that if they want any kind of competitive PVP scene, that they will HAVE to go for dedicated servers.
-
Agreed.
-
If it less competetive for one person it is more for someone else. High skill players had a great deal, now it is the same for everyone. All recreational games have handicaps, age brackets, weight classes and brackets because competion is fun. Stomping noobs is not a long term plan that works.

Edited by sdfgtty67: 5/24/2016 12:02:48 AMYou didn't address the lag once in your video. SBMM breaks the dwindling player base into even smaller chunks, causing latency as we have to go further to find opponents. Nor did you mention the awful things that happen when a skilled player plays with unskilled friends. The most skilled players ELO is taken into consideration so the unslilled friends get crushed. You only looked at the issue from the perspective of someone who only solo drops 100% of the time. Sorry mtashed. You need to open your eyes. Your research is flawed. Maybe this is why you have 0 likes on this forums post.

2 RepliesThere's no defending the issues that SBMM presents in destiny. I could however agree that separate ranked and social playlists could work if Bungie changed the way skill is measured. In its current state SBMM is horrible for this game.
-
Top tier players deserve to be treated better because they are better. If being good didn't make a difference what's the point of improving. Your crucible school wouldn't matter because no one would have to improve. They would be playing their skill level anyway.
-
Well said. SBMM is definitely a better choice than CBMM for the overwhelming majority of players and for the lifespan of the game. Catering to the top 5 or 10% at the expense of everyone else is just a foolish idea that would drive players away, and due to the dwindling population, would lead back to long matchmaking times and greater lag anyway. Separate play lists (and custom games) are the only legit solution that satisfies the needs of the top-tier whose "pro" skills break the game for everyone else. And I know Halo referred to them as "ranked" and "social", but the semantics are annoying to me - I hope that in D2 they call them SB and CB, or balanced and unbalanced, or leveled and random, or matchmade vs. public or something...the older I get, the more aggravated I get about the spin-doctored 1984 Newspeak marketing b.s. that insults consumer intelligence!
