Do you think the Nintendo NX will be using cartridges?

Rumor has it that the NX will be using cartridges for its games, eliminating any potential backwards compatibility (minus virtual console games(maybe)). According to a financial briefing from Macronix, a supplier of flash memory for Nintendo, they believe their next quarter will be as successful as the last due to the impending launch of the NX next year. This hints that they might be supplying the tech for cartridges that might be used for the NX's games. What do you think? If this is true, then this may be a smart move from Nintendo. I mean, flash memory has come a long way since the N64 days. For instance, some 64gb micro SD cards cost less than a PS4 or Xbox one game.

  • No it won't happen but I know for a fact Nintendo will use their own optical discs like they did with the GameCube, Wii, and Wii U, they need to make a deal with Sony and use Blu Ray's for the NX because that console needs Blu Ray support it's a standard

    • I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to do this. They'll get more storage capacity than the standard DVDs that the Wii and Wii U used. I think it would be a nice throwback. But ultimately I don't think they will. They will most likely play it safe and go driveless or stick to DVDs.

      • Considering they learned the hard way about what occurs when they decide to make their games on a different medium than the others. I doubt they will do it again. Then again..

      • Nintendo are not thinking right now. They're not doing a Direct and not showing the NX off at all. Here's to hoping they pull it off whatever they're doing.

      • I'm sure Nintendo was in no hurry to licence Blu-ray from Sony, so it's come up with yet another proprietary, console exclusive disk format or use flash memory. Another rumor says that the NX will be drive-less, and all content will be digital download only to cut costs. Another rumor says all content will be delivered via a streaming service. Both are a big risk. The vast array of different speculation flying around about the NX should be a clear indication that Nintendo needs to just announce the damn thing already.
