Before you begin reading all of this, please do some research on "Game Theory" to further understand Destiny's loot system.

RNG stands for Random Number Generator. Randomness is not attainable by computer. Computers can only emulate randomness through generators, therefore it is not truly random. Destiny's loot system is based on a highly advanced algorithmic formula.
In most algorithmic reward systems, players usually get a seed number that is imbedded into the game when they first install it. This seed number will predetermine your probable chances of end-game loot.
You would think a reward would feel rewarding, right? So, why does the loot system seem to favor players who perform poorly? I see it happen far too often. I've seen more players at the bottom of the end-game leaderboards get some of the best possible items you could think of rather than those who performed far better. It is such a rare and odd occurrence for a player that performed well to truly be rewarded for their efforts.

I have a few proposals that would relieve the endless frustration of the current loot system. Increase the overall drop rates by a percentage. Implement some kind of weighted leverage in the system that slightly favors one thing over another. Reintroduce weapon reforging. Then the loot system would be much more satisfying and desirable to deal with. Let's be honest though, in most cases when you luckily do get some loot, it's usually either dismantled or used as infusion almost instantly. The odds of getting an item with the exact perks you want is extremely unlikely to happen in your lifetime.
I'm only going to tolerate this game up until Overwatch is released, then I'm done with this game. If I do not get any satisfying loot that is worthwhile by then, I'm officially done with this game. I am a day one player with almost 165 days of play time, which I am ashamed of to say now. To this day, I have not received any outstanding loot. You can call me selfish and greedy, but it hurts me as a consumer to know that I have invested so much time into this rigged RNG-to-win slot machine-type game only to recieve zero payouts in the end.
So I'm done with your bullshit Bungie. Again, I have almost 165 days of play time and I have yet to become legend. I have yet to be rewarded something that was worth all the time I have invested into this game. I'm finally giving up at this point. Start treating your players with some honor and respect. Your slowly stripping my time and dignity from me and it's honestly hurting my feelings as a consumer. I'll soon be one of the many day one players to leave this game for good and for better.
Your move, Bungie.
Rant over.
TL;DR: Please improve your overall loot system. Increase the drop rates in certain playlists. Introduce a mechanic within the loot system that ever so slightly favors those that perform better than others in each activity. Do something that truly, truly rewards players for their efforts. Otherwise reintroduce weapon reforging. At least do something to keep your players satisfied and happy.
You know your RNG sucks when you're 335 light but still getting 334 loot.
You know your RNG sucks when you get a Party Crasher with Rangefinder but it has Hand-Laid Stock.
You know your RNG sucks when you still haven't got an exotic engram after over 80 Three of Coins.
You know your RNG sucks when you get a legendary artifact from a legendary special weapon engram.
You know your RNG sucks when a player joins at the very end of the strike you're in and he/she gets the strike exclusive item.
Destiny's RNG be like, "Oh, you got the most kills and orbs generated in a single strike? Here, we'll give the other guy 3 Strange Coins for getting 7 kills and 1 orb generated."
1 ReplyEdited by Judge_Rhymehold: 5/16/2016 3:58:59 AMWith the amount of crappy perks rolled on gear (how many 'side arm loader' armor pieces does a guy with zero sidearms need? Oh, all of them need it!) we should be swimming in loot. Most of it would still be useless, give a few mats, but mostly it'll FEEL like winning. The most important thing for s loot game, I'd think. Or let us re-roll one attribute. When I played the division I liked that concept, except they had so many perks one wasn't enough to change, perfect for destiny though.

2 RepliesAfter 110 packages giving me 80 gauntlets and 20+ marks, with 0 guns, I thought my ACC was bugged, so deleted 4000hrs worth of grind, my Titan deleted forever, my ACC with 140 allies deleted. Started a new acc, new warlock, got to 40, then it began 15 packages, 15 legs, managed a tonne of exotic engrams, 11 primary, 10 were bad juju, tonnes of boots, all stand asides, and all the other armour was Titan n hunter stuff, Inc ,5 helmns, ALL graviton forfeit Then to top it off last night, played trials, game 7 rewarded fusion. Then silver package gave fusion, then gold tier gave fusion. Went to pick up crucible package, gave fusion, vanguard package fusion, n dead orbit package gave fusion, so pushed my luck, spent 250 motes n got 2 more fusions. That's just disgusting. I'm literally at my wit's end and on the verge of just walking away. The game is basically telling me to create a Titan and hunter, and use fusion rifles and buy as freaking shoe cupboard It's a brand new ACC, and if this happened to me as a new player in vanilla I wouldn't have reached 40 hrs never mind 4000!

1 ReplyI used to have two characters , my original character always got the shaft on loot but my second character always got insane drops

4 RepliesThat is how they make money. The more time YOU invest into Destiny = More money for them. They intentionally give rewards to poor performance players because it will keep them in the game, and it makes them happy. Higher performance, such as us, do not get these as much, and we let it go through our minds that if we keep playing, we will get it. I've played an assload of Crucible, and still have not gotten a single decent Party Crasher. I've gotten two. Both are garbage, but I had to keep 1 because I deleted my Matadors when TTK came out. If reforging was a thing, and more expensive, people would love it, and wouldn't have to stress over trying to get a god roll. I can feel Activisions hands on this. They will milk every series of it's money and will do anything to do so. And this "RNG" is a small factor of it. If Activision never paired up with Bungie, Destiny would be such an amazing game. But it's sad that Destiny is just merely a shadow of what it could be now. I don't think Bungie can turn it around now. They already did the damage. They allowed 2 people to work on 6 months of content, for millions of players, (The Live Team), and they messed up Crucible so bad with the Rewards, SBMM, Connection, Meta, and all this. Though people complained about Y1, I would kill to go back to HoW. Destiny is just dipping back at one of it's lowest points. It's ashame, really.

7 RepliesIn not gonna lie, I've never been frustrated with the reward system. It's been quite fun and refreshing compared to predictable results featured in other games. Ya never know what your gonna get! I don't understand the issue? Sure I've gotten some pretty bad Nightfall rewards but it was quickly redeemed by a nice drop in a following activity.

Signed and stamped. This was their chance for redemption before they ask for more of our money. All I see is more of the same bs, my money is going elsewhere.

1 ReplyGreatest post ever of all time . Thank you.

1 ReplyGreat post! Very interesting reading

1 ReplyGreat post, agree completely. Although I am sure its not as random as people think the algorithm seems to take into account both your recent play history and what you need Anecdotal, but recently I needed a good shot gun and in a short space of time got offered three by various drops. Conversely I just need gauntlets at 335 to max out, majority of recent exotic anagrams all primaries! Any one else seen a trend which suggests not entirety random?
-
5 RepliesAnd you think Overwatch will reward you? I was already getting dupes in the beta alone, not to mention it took an entire level to even get a drop.

3 RepliesI've never heard of PVE having a rewards payout based on performance...so, unless there is, it sounds like your expectations are what is ruining things for you. PVP does have a system that progressively gives better rewards to the top player, but that's never a 100% thing. Past IB, normally in most of the games I came out on top of my team, and there were times I got decently rewarded, and times I got nothing.
-
4 RepliesWhen you stop chasing the loot the game feels more rewarding. Play because you like shooting things. Play because it is a fun shooter.

17 RepliesI am going to test this game right now. I have 2 CD's. The day one release CD and the Taken King Legendary Edition CD. Both are the same exact game, but arguably totally different CD's. I have been using the Taken King Legendary Edition CD for a long time now, getting lackluster rewards. My theory is that if I put in my other CD after a long time of not using it that I will get a legendary drop in my first couple games. It has seemed to be the case in the past, but I never gave it much thought. I always that it was coincidence. I will edit in my results after a few games.

6 RepliesIt's just a slightly rigged, colorful slot machine. That's been the reason that this game has such a following: People are addicted. Fun stopped somewhere and addiction took over for most people. They may not admit it or hell, they may not even know they're addicted. When you browse the forums and look at how people talk about the game you can clearly see that for a LOT of people it seems as though the game is a chore to be completed, not an escape like a traditional game. Now if i were on the business end of this and wanted to make money? That's exactly how i would've created the loot system as well. On the other hand there are ways to have fun AND not feel like the game is some weird job That's my opinion, no better/no worse than anyone else's. Have a good one and nice comic OP, i got a kick out of it!

1 ReplyThey should just reintroduce weapon reforging and just make it cost a shit ton of materials and have a cap on how many times a weapon can be re-rolled. Anything is better than getting item after item that gets immediately dismantled because it comes with shit perks, some of which don't do anything, cough, cough, guerrilla fighter, cough...

1 ReplyThe simple and honest way to respond to this is like this. It's a video game. Plain and simple. Destiny changed many people's lives (more bad than good). If you've spent hundreds of hours playing this game, then sure, you've made some friends along the way, but i bet your ass tacked on a couple pounds also. Me personally, i was in shape, nice body, groomed my beard every other day. But since destiny entered my life it became, Tuesday i gotta shave. Oh hell no, that's reset day bruh and put shaving to the side. Workouts became less and less. Back problems became more and more. I started getting back on track and playing much less. I like that destiny sucks now cuz I'm getting back into life.

3 RepliesI totally agree with u. I've had 1 eyasluna drop ever and its not A great roll and thats really the main thing I want. I play crucible to no end. It should really be dropping more often and i tht After the april update the crucible legendarys were supposed to drop More often but isn't the case for me Anyways. We should be able to enjoy The guns we want and not play forever to maybe get something or by chance Finally get something right before it Becomes obsolete. Its just not fair in My opinion. Anyways thats my rant and YeS bring back reforging in my opinion also
