Edited by Auttumnnnn: 5/9/2016 8:02:05 PMI suppose I must rephrase the question. Why are girls more attracted to the games listed than other games such as the following?: Other FPS games aside from those listed. Racing games. Fighting games. Horror games. Strategy games. Survival games aside from those listed. Puzzle games. Other Nintendo titles aside from those listed. Platformers. Games similar to Dark Souls. Probably more that I'm forgetting.

Edited by EnbyousNova: 5/9/2016 8:04:25 PMI think saying that any gender only likes 1 sort of game is a bit of a generalization. I for example have games from Okami, to CoD, to Little Big Planet, Skyrim, Fallout, MMOs, etc. I like a little bit of everything from every genre, and I'm sure most players, women included, likely feel the same way. Why limit yourself to just one genre or franchise when there are hundreds of options? Edit: I think these patterns you are noticing are more coincidental than anything.

As an example: According to Nintendo's information, about 36% of their online playerbase at the time of release of Animal Crossing: New Leaf was female. However, again according to their information, over 50% of players who purchased the game were female. This indicates that this game specifically especially attracts females more than many other games. Why do you think this is?

Well Nintendo in particular has become well known for having a much more gender neutral marketing goal. They are literally one of the oldest companies still in the industry. They generally don't focus on "manly" games, like, you don't see Nintendo pushing many FPS style games, and I don't know that I've seen many American Nintendo games with a rating beyond a T. I like this post, it's an interesting discussion. Then again I'm really really stoned.

I agree. Nintendo's makes great games. If only their consoles were as great as their games. However, the point is, why Animal Crossing? Why doesn't Splatoon have such a huge female population? Or Metroid, Super Smash Bros., Kirby? Animal Crossing (among other games I've listed in the op) is clearly especially appealing to female gamers. The question is, why? Well it's a cute game that is story driven and not based around violence or without having violence as a main theme/mechanic/ etc. Story driven games are almost always more appealing to the gender neutral marketing approach because most games that have a wide male base are likely FPS, or some other game with gunplay/combat as a central mechanic.
