Religion has been on the face of Earth for so long now, and has done multiple things:
-Given people hope
-"Enlightened" people
-Gave people a reason to proceed with life
-Has brought people together
-Helped society grow
But it has also:
-Killed millions upon millions of innocent men, women, and children for near no reason, and still to this day.
-Major disputes that end in war and chaos
-Brought extremists to do horrid acts of violence
-Brought a world of egotistic douchebags who think they're better than everyone else
-Boosted arrogance and immorality of humans
And much more could be argued on both sides. What is your standpoint on religion, and has religion been the downfall of society as we know today, or has it made us better people?
I personally believe religion has brought us far, but has come to a point where it kills more people and threatens everyday life than anything else. People still need it, but war and chaos has been a major problem, especially with extremist groups that take their beliefs too far, and kill those who disbelieve.

No not religion; just extremism/extremist.

2 RepliesGo God Go is a 2 part episode of South Park. It shows that if humans weren't fighting about religion we would be fighting about something else. We are violent species.

Religion isn't that bad on it's own. It's bad if you tie it to a political party even though the party doesn't really stand for the religion (Republican Party) It's also bad if you create a proxy war overseas and use their background as a battleground

Religion is not the issue, it's people's opinions that are the issue

3 RepliesI think it's more of a problem that a lot of atheists are out there shunning those with faith in a higher power. Back when I was a christian, I was afraid to tell people of my religion.i was almost certain criticism would come to me if I let people know I was a christian and it really ruined the faith for me. I'm not gonna say it's the sole purpose I'm an atheist now, but it was factor in it and I hate that people were able to be hateful enough to make someone of a religion all about hope scared to say they belonged to a religion. But the thing is, those people who hate Christians are the people who see the one's who are most radical in their beliefs and those who are bigoted only because those are the people who are most exposed and that's the impression people most often get because of those few people. I can say the same about a lot of religions, even atheism. Not all Christians, Muslims, Atheists are how people see them most often. Not half, not a even a lot of those people are terrorists, people halting progress, or even people who hate the idea of a higher power. Whenever you get your first impression of a group of people all because of one person, please don't group them all together as terrible people and do your research.

1 ReplyIt is a VERY BIG problem in its current form. And this goes for almost all religions. Yes, it goes for Buddhism as well.

14 RepliesEdited by fangfireskull: 5/9/2016 4:01:06 PMRecently, other then Islam, not really. The problems are coming from people wanting to pick their gender and/or be an inanimate objects. As well as people wanting special treatment for being something.
I'm going to get roasted alive, aren't I?
8 RepliesReligion is reading an adventure book as fact, and adventure book wrote by (who I can only assume) a psychedelic's 13 (now 12) friends. Putting that aside for a minute, religion has started more wars than anything else, more genocides and more hate than anything else. Islam, Judaism and Christianity have almost exactly the same beliefs yet throughout history they've all killed each other. Going back to this 2000 year old book that was wrote in a time of hate, why do people think it can be used to tell us that we should hate gays and that they're gonna go hell? The book is 2000 years old, you're never gonna read the original and beliefs like this is why religion is bad.

1. Religion is good 2. Bad religions, wich make inhuman things and sacrifices, FOR ME( I dont want ro fight), they aren't good 3. ALL the religion problems, like that "11.000 million dead, were because of the fake religions and complains that the HUMAN created, religion isn't he problem, We are the problem. And another reason of why we are the problem: (nothing about religion) We have got a world called Earth, and instead of taking care from it, we are just destroying it.
Im not saying that every relogoon is a bad one, im just explaining my point of view Sorry for bad english, I speak spanish :'/
You can't say This is not true. Because we all know it, but we negate it (or how it says) But, remember Truth is the only way, do you want to be a liar or a good person? It's your decision. Be free to choose

Yea some religious people have thought they were superior before. There's even some now like that. But that doesn't mean every single religious person is like that. Pope Francis is a great example. That guy doesn't want to kill anybody. Don't blame the religion, blame the person. If someone crashes into to me with their car, am I going to sue the car company? Or the person that hit me? Think of it that way.

Edited by EdgeCrusher02: 5/14/2016 1:15:58 PMBelief without any reason other than it makes the individual feel better is complacent and probably stagnates the majority of human enlightenment. There is little to no reciprocity in personal enlightenment and salvation. It also distorts any legitimate and reciprocal sense of morality. Personally, I think that it does more harm than good. It can be good for an individual(I've seen this first hand), but I think it's bad for humanity as a whole.

Religion to me is not about the existence of God, but about learning to respect each other and some very basic rules (do not steal etc.). Religion is not about having power or telling/opressing other people your religion is the right one. These are the points that we tend to forget unfortunately.

4 RepliesHey, how about you stop. No like seriously, you try to trigger people a lot. Stop, you're an attention whore.

Out of date and needs to get with the times.

Well we don't know until they don't exist

Religion is just a symptom. Closed minds and irrationality are the true problems.

We probably could have colonised Mars by now if religion hadn't restrained science for so long. I really think religion has done more harm than good.
