Last night, I bought an exotic heavy weapon engram from Xur for 31 coins with my level 40 Titan. When I got it decoded, I ended up with Thunderlord. Naturally, I was pretty psyched about this, until I saw that it was the level 20 (presumably Year One) version. So basically, I'm just wondering why that is. If I simply had crappy luck with the RNG this time around, that's fine, but I just want to make sure I'm not missing something.
I also bought Hawkmoon and Twilight Garrison from Xur at the same time, both of which were level 40, and both of which I'm very happy with.
Thanks!

2 RepliesHello, What happened was you bought a Legacy Engram. All Legacy Engrams will decrypt with year one values. These engrams are sold for those who are collectors.

So Xur sells a "Legacy Engram" every week which is just a random year 1 exotic for anyone who wants to complete their collection or unlock the year 2 version from the Kiosk. It's a common, and expensive, mistake lol

Legacy engrams only drop year 1 items. The only time Xûr will sell current exotic engrams is when he doesn't bring a weapon. That's why it costs double to buy a legacy, because it's mainly for people completing their collection of year 1 weapons if they didn't get brought up to year 2 values yet. Unfortunately you'll have to eat the cost as a lesson, although if you didn't have a Thunderlord before, you can now go to the exotic weapon kiosk and buy a year 2 version at 280 light for 2500 glimmer and an exotic shard. Don't worry, I did the very same thing the first time he appeared with Legacy's after Taken King without thinking about it.
