Origins 2, all is coming to pass (as I predicted ;D) [UPDATED!]

Ok *deep breaths* It seems that every thread I create requires and understanding of my other thread. Ok, for those of you who haven't seen it yet here it is Just to quickly go over the graphical aspects of it, awesome. Surpassed the last one, CGI incorporated, so all is good. Now lemme cut the crap. My heart raced when I saw the Iris. Pause at 12:13 (Which when added equals 7 btw) Now if you have read my thread, you would already be like OMG!, or maybe thats just me. But this means something substantial. 1. 343 is playing off of Iris, it wasn't a meaningless campaign, which means I am right (as always xD jk jk) to think Iris has a part to play in future Halo plots. But what is it doing in Cortanas eye? Of course if you read my thread, you know what ill probably say. Somethings piggybacking on Cortana through space.
Thanks to this slavishly loyal and humorless AI, I am now sharing cramped space with the circuitry of some hybrid war machine, itself complicated by such useless clutter as a conscience. I do not like sharing. Sharing is for children.
I have a shiver of excitement running up my leg. xD Not only tat, but what else did Origins 2 show us? I noticed in the very beginning, the Nasca lines in South America. Huge as symbols in the ground created by the natives. In theory it could only be seen by gods because there, you know, in the sky. Unfortunately for them, they didn't foresee the invention of the airplane. Don't know what it means, but whatever. Also something puzzled me. The fighting against the flood made no sense. We never fought it together with the Covenant at that scale, not even close. It also features multiple Spartans in the fighting I believe... mystery. Then theres the secrets. I mean "Secrets sense the beginning of time' seems pretty important to me. And can only logically be Precursor seeing as how there the oldest civilization we know of in Halo. It also said that some of these secrets may provoke war.
Look for the signs, the keepers of the flame. They will lead you to war, and perhaps, to victory
Iris! You have awaken! Frankie, has scored some recent points with me for Evolutions and now this obvious showing of advanced planning in plot. Also, why did Mr. Gravemind appear to give the Spartan (presumably MC) an AI chip? Discuss (Especially Iris part) EDIT/UPDATE: After finally seeing i with Frankies commentary, things actually started to make sense. Not only that, but show even more writing skill. Everything you see in Origins is based on Cortanas interpretation of events. Now there's the issue of the Forerunner. Cortana has never actually seen one, so basically that's her guessing how they looked like. That coupled with the fact she's reaching 7 years and is obviously unstable, means that we can't rely on anything[/] we see. On top of that, her whipping away the ice crystals on the Cryo pod. This goes with her possible rampancy. Cortana isn't actually whipping away the crystals, or stepping away from the pedestal for that matter. She's imagining it all. Having trouble coping with reality, wishing she was human, so she imagines herself doing all that. Cortana is basically going insane, coming up with alternate realities, imaging powers and abilities she doesn't have, etc. [Edited on 03.14.2010 3:36 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: Zephrix I think in Origins Part II when they talked about the Humans and Covenant teaming up, I think they meant the Separatists (Arbiter, etc.).
Actually, I didn't think of that.... That sounds like the most likely explanation. As we know from Evolutions, after Halo 3 tensions among the species started rising again. Legends could have represented that, the joining together of the separatist and humans for a short amount of time.

 •
Posted by: JABBERWOCK xeno Just left a comment on one of your other threads... I really cannot believe this.... it's just too freakin logical and mind blowing.... Are you sure you don't work for bungie?
Last time I checked. But with Cortana now in her fragile state, she would have been easy picking from an almost fully completed MB.

 • One thing they did wrong! The Covenant and the UNSC would NEVER work together. No matter how many they would face, the Prophets wouldn't allow it. Never would that happen. But it was good non-canon action!

 •
Posted by: JobeTheConqueror While I don't fully support this theory, remember this from Evolutions. Cortana while on High Charity basically has all her data and memories picked apart and combed through by the Gravemind. In an act of desperation, she absorbs the critical data she has on Earth, the Forerunner database on Halo, the Index, etc. into her core, in order to hide it from the Gravemind. Her core is where her personality, her decision making, her very being, is housed.
So perhaps that caused Cortana to take on some aspects of MB? Extending her life? Increasing her ability as an AI? She still has the physical limitations of her housing (no idea of its size, but still).
Posted by: Crucio
Posted by: Lord Snakie I don't know what to believe and what they were trying to convey and how physics allows Cortana to unfog glass when she's a hologram and oh hogd.
Just a little note on this mystery. I know Frankie did say in the commentary "She's not technically supposed to be able to do that." or something of that matter, but recently I've read this passage in TFoR:
H:TFoR, Page 236, Paragraph 4~ ish Cortana leaped to her "feet", turned her back to Dr. Halsey, and examined the photographs on the wall. She brushed her fingertips over the glass surfaces. "Which one will be mine?"
I know, it doesn't say she actually touched it, but its pretty close. That scene made me think of Origins II right off the bat.
A thought I had in that final scene was that she could've been dying (with all that red flickering blah blah). It seemed like her doing a quick sad soliloque, summarising all she has experienced and what she knows. Then loses the plot and thinks she is wiping the frost from the glass. Just her interpretation, in the final moments, of being... somewhat human. Here is a quote from Halopedia (not great i know but its referenced to page 31 in Contact Harvest); "If an AI is isolated long enough and/or given too much time to think without tasks to complete, it can develop the realizations that its mind has limits, it has a short life and it can never be human. Such depression will drag the AI's core logic into rampancy if it goes on for an extended period of time" Cortana had that time to do nothing, could've experienced that depression and died during a stage of "wanting to be human". Thats what I thouht when she was wiping the frost off, that she was trying to get close to 'another human' before the end. Or whatever.

 •
Posted by: Agustus
Posted by: kippa I was thinking about Origins Part II yesterday and how Cortana starts flickering and just the general nature of the entire episode. It seems sad, a lamentation. I had the sad thought that it was perhaps Cortana finally dying, leaving Master Chief in a stasis forever. When she wipes the frost from the glass, it seems like a final goodbye. That was just one thought I had about it, I was thinking of turning it into a fully fledged theory, but I'm not sure how'd I'd support it apart from the regular "smart AI's die after 7 years" and "she got a lot of extra information from Halo". I wanted to say, wouldn't Cortana realise she had taken on another AI, I imagine it would've been fairly large and noticable, even with all that Forerunner records, I would've though a shard of MB would stand out.
MB could possibly be detectable, she just can't do anything about it. Or with all the Forerunner data she has, and the little shake up she got with the Gravemind, MB could very well have infiltrated her, screwed up her systems further so she is unable to detect him, etc. That is all a possibility. "Cortana" as we know her, may fade, and be replaced by a new entity. That's where another one of my threads come in.
While I don't fully support this theory, remember this from Evolutions. •
Posted by: Erkyo Can someone please clear this up for me. Is this a whole new episode or just part two of the Origins. So is it Halo Legends Origins 1 part II Or is it Halo Legends Origins #2? If it is a new Origins where can I find this.
Relax. You didn't miss anything. They are talking about Part 2. Forum Protip: Actually read some of the posts in the thread and you will be able to glean this information yourself.
Who is victim, and who is foe?
Also in the final scene, when Cortana ask herself "I wonder if warriors will ever disappear from this world". Then answers herself, directly prior to the Iris symbol appearing in her eye. We have already reached the conclusion somethings piggybacking on Cortana. What if thats what answered? Don't forget that she was in the system with Mendicant Bias during Halo 2, prior to the Dreadnought leaving High Charity. He may have decided to latch himself onto Cortana.
MB was also completely disconnected from High Charity at that point. Truth and the other Prophets do that when the truth about the Humans comes out.
This makes me wanna go over the sortana letters again to see i can find connections to MB. Maybe the cortana letters were part cortana, part grave mind (hence some of the very cryptic things she says and are things she says in halo3)and part MB.

 • Without a doubt my favorite part of Legends. Part I was was cool, Part II was great! There was great work done on the combination of music and images. Seeing our history (particularly WWII through the beginning of the Insurrection) with Never Forget in the background was an amazing experience. I would say that Part II did not add much to our knowledge of the Halo Universe, if anything it helped us put all the history both real and made up into perspective. Can I haz more origins plz?

 • I have to agree on your theory that Bias is "bunking" with Cortana. Now my questions all mighty genious are the following: Even in his weakened state can't MB simply dust off Cortana? If she has came back from rampancy why does she flash red? If MB did have a TOP secret mission for MC&cortana why allow her to drop a homing beacon? The final scene of Halo Legends where the camara zooms into the Iris and you see a Halo being "eaten away' In my head its either Cortana or MB being turned off.Any Ideas? • With regards to the humans and Covenant fighting the flood...I believe we were looking at combat at Voi during the flood gate and on the Ark when the flood landed there. The scale is indeed off from what we saw in the game, but I don't necessarily dislike that. I always did feel that with the epic nature of the Halo universe the things you actually saw in game underplayed what happened. I was surprisingly satisfied with this short. As for the thing with the Grave mind giving the Spartan (chief?) the chip, no idea. Also some seriously funky -blam!- going on with Cortana.

 • The AI chip is making some sense. Of things possibly to come. What if the Gravemind wants MC to know, and or see something? Witch he can do via an AI chip. Kinda like he did with Cortana in Evolutions.

Which means during the last terminal he connected himself to master chief. From there we could have connected with cortana for whatever reason.
