My Idea for Rewarding Those Who Love PvE Most but Not So Much Raiding

I personally love PvE heaps, but the need to run raids with strangers (I don't have any friends that play Destiny) usually always ends up taking hours and the people I run with give up before the end. Raids are vital in getting the best gear, but I don't want to be required to allocate a few hours (and patience) just to complete one of them (if that). I think that there is a lot of potential in creating a solo-friendly mode that can reward players for doing very well on their own - and the highest level reward should be on tier with the hardest raid's rewards. My favourite idea would be to create some kind of rogue-like mode, where the player has one life and is thrown into an open environment (like the Cosmodrome) filled with secrets, tough enemies, dynamic content and AI. Imagine you start off in the Mothyards in the Cosmodrome. There are fallen in the area but they aren't so tough (probably light-level 260), they would start out easy but at the same time there won't be great loot to find there. There will be groups of tough enemies patrolling and/or guarding around the entire map, and because you have only one life, you want to leave these bad-ass groups 'til later. There will be hidden chests around the area which can contain a vast assortment of loot. There will be bosses and mini-bosses scattered through the map who will drop very valuable loot. You might get some buffs that only last once per life in this mode that will help taking down these tough enemy groups. These can be earned by killing some ultras or by finding some that are hidden throughout the environment. The buffs could range from multiplying headshot damage, multiplying certain damage types, giving the player a larger magazine, a large ammo capacity, buffs to their Supers, special unique and stronger grenade types and more. I would personally love it if there is semi-finite amount of enemies that will be in the map. There could be reinforcements at some points (like heading down a tranquil area and then to be ambushed), but even then there would be a fixed number. This way it will feel like you are clearing out a truly hostile area and that the AI really are living and breathing(?) entities in the world. I think an interesting addition could be that you can't just head straight to orbit and take your newly found gear with you. There should be designated areas in the map that allow the player(s) to extract with their gear. This mode could also of course support more than just one player, but it should be equally as difficult no matter how many players there are.

  • Serious question. Why are you playing a MMO if you want to do everything by yourself? I get that this isn't your typical MMO, but I'm not seeing the point. I'll try some activities by myself from time to time just for fun, but if you want to do things by yourself why not play a game that isn't already so multiplayer based?

    • In Y1 there was a path to level cap for solo players and PvPers. But that was mainly due to the fact that level differences mattered greatly. Now in Y2 with Light Levels, there doesn't need to be a path to full level cap for solo players. Level cap is now reserved primarily for team based activities. So if you want it, go get a team together. Otherwise, as a solo player, it's not necessary.

      • Did I place this in the wrong sub-forum?
